MiltyG565
Doesn't garageband have an option to bounce to MP3 or something then?
Not sure, but when you send it to iTunes you convert it to either MP3 or AAC. Then you can choose all your different compression options. I've gone for MP3 at 128 K/BIT because i'm uploading to youtube. I'll use different compression options when i create my composition for the competition

MiltyG565
It's quite hard to actually find other peoples recordings in this thread, so i was thinking, when you record your competition piece, we should all put a link to that piece in our signatures, that way it's easier to find, and you also know who created the piece. lowdown
Folk put the link in their post during that particular month, with a brief on what they have done. Then for the voting over the last week Charic links all on one post. Stephen Houghton
But i already have Garageband. I'm just learning the ropes on it. I just re-recorded a cover of an RHCP track, and i made 5 tracks for my bass so that it sounds fuller. Basically i lined them up- 1. Centre. 2.Hard right. 3. Hard left. 4. Between centre and hard right. 5. Between centre and hard left. I've used audacity before... didn't really like it. iTunes gives plenty of compression options anyway. and Garageband records in AIF format... and it came pre-installed on my laptop! wow!
You can save and compress in Aif in Audacity as well as Mp3 and loads of other options

You'll find everyone has their own favourite when it comes to 'phones - here's mine: http://www.amazon.co.uk/AKG-K240-MKII-Circumaural-Headphones/dp/B0016MNBAM/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1352978676&sr=8-14 I find these give a very flat and accurate sound for the price. Ultimately though, I strongly recommend visiting your local retailer and trying them out in-store (then buying online if you can find them cheaper). How well they fit your bonce can be a big issue! MiltyG565
Sound guru Dave Rat did a series on youtube about the best headphones. Although i think he was using it more for live sound monitoring rather than mixing or recording.
I use these http://www.thomann.de/gb/superlux_hd662_f.htm They're dirt cheap, and the company makes the parts for AKG (you'll notice these look almost identical to a pair of AKGs). They sound strikingly similar to my M-Audio BX5a monitors so work perfectly for me. Top quality and you simply can not argue with the price. Worth a punt for £27. Lord Sausage
So are people judging this on the composition quality or mix quality or both. I thought it was just the composition. Also i'm beginning to worry if i'll get mine finished in time, about half way through!
