ahpook
now that i'm reinstalled in the spare room as my studio i decided to finally getting round to using the spare fibreglass insulation the builders left for me last year. last weekend, after assembling 10 ikea storage boxes, and looking at the pile of packaging left over...and idea struck me. here are the some of the boxes - they're ~300x300x50mm let's go...i started to assemble the boxes into a panel and between the PVA and clothes pegs it all felt very blue peter. civil service stapler for scale. as a back panel i used part of a scavanged estate agent's sign. more PVA and some handy weights next comes the fibreglass ! gloves on and sprayed down with dilute PVA to bind the fibres as much as possible i didn't photograph the next bit - i covered the panels with some material (an old dust sheet), folded the excess round and glued it with more PVA and dust tape to hold it in place. aaaaand finally - here's one up (wall mounting to come tomorrow) in the studio and there's a definite difference to the sound - there's a lot less echo from the listening position and the room feels a little less ringy overall. i did make 2 btw !! not a patch on a pro job with materials that would have cost me something...but nay bad, and a lot of fun ! 51m0n
Nice effort. Hang them away from the wall by a few inches (2 to 4) and they will work a lot beter. My personal fave looking (and performing) panels are these:- http://www.irishacoustics.com/index.php/acoustics/diy-acoustic-traps/ More info here:- http://www.gearslutz.com/board/bass-traps-acoustic-panels-foam-etc/753545-best-diy-trap-ever.html
