Floyd Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 Does anyone get tennis elbow playing bass? I used to have it when I played guitar but now I'm playing bass it's gone. Quote
chrisd24 Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 Played last night and have just woken up with it for the first time! Quote
BigAlonBass Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 I got problems with it regularly when I used to use a plectrum. It must have been the angle I held my arm or something. Swift steroid injection from the Doctor, switch to fingers, and had no bother since. Quote
ezbass Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 Mine was caused by rock climbing but playing bass and golf aggravated it. Eventually I had to get a cortisone shot as it wasn't getting any better. I still get the odd twinge but it recovers pretty quickly. Quote
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 (edited) Went from being a couch potato, no bands to suddenly doing regular excercise and playing in 2 bands.. That was a few years ago. Saw a physio, and after 3 sessions it disappeared. Painful ,) Edited November 3, 2012 by RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Quote
paul j h Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 Hi, i had tennis elbow years ago, caused by playing rugby (tight head prop) tried everything, saw the doctor no joy. Then someone suggested cod liver oil capsules - no problems since. Cheers Paul. Quote
BILL POSTERS Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 I usully get it a bit around this time of year for some reason. So far this year a daily double dose of Fish Oil capsules ( not Cod liver Oil) and one of the wifes legwarmers, doubled over as a support and to keep it warm seems to be helping, it aint been too bad up to now. Floyd Posted November 3, 2012 Author Posted November 3, 2012 I've read that it's caused by gripping tight so now that I'm not barring chords maybe that's what's helped Quote

Good idea about the doubled leg warmer by the way. (are you sure it was "The wife's ? ) Mine is caused by the changing of my computer chair! With the chair i have now i have to stretch my arm out at an angle to reach the mouse. Manys the time i fell asleep at the controls and woke up arm outstretched. So now I invest in a wireless mouse and keyboard. Edited November 3, 2012 by daz Quote
Deep Thought Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Used to get it really badly, until I went to a physio who gave me a load of stretching and weights exercises which sorted it right out. I used to find playing with my fingers whilst sitting, and thus with a more flexed elbow, made it worse. Quote

[/quote] Probably just the price in reallity, but its what was in the cupboard and according to some [s]nutter [/s]woman my wife sat next to on a plane recently, theres a huge difference. Does seem to be helping though. She also only uses coconut sugar in her coffee and coconut oil as a moisturiser nowadays, so its probably just a fad. As for the mouse, now theres a thought, my laptops on the blink, so I been using my desk more lately, and I use a mouse lefthanded. I wonder what fish oil is like for guitar necks..... Just kidding.
