Ruck
Well Ive totally gone off the whole "stay on all the time" compression as most pedals I have tried, eventhough liked at first, ended up hating with live use as they take too much out of the tone and dynamics. However, Im after a compression pedal now to use as an on/off effect which does the whole extreme squishy squelchy greasy funk like tone. Please post suggestions for ones you have or have heard that do this with outrageous effect. Cheers.

Ruck
Awesomo cheers guys. Im trying to achieve something close to but not necessarily the same as the bass tone in D.A.N.C.E by Justice. Fantastic use of effects on that album
51m0n
Joe Meek FloorQ - love the 'feel' of the squish on this. Anything that has a full range of controls can be set to damned squishy, if you know what you are doing. Its all about attack and release settings and curves. If you get the threshold down to just under the peaks, and the ratio up to around 4:1, then you should be able to get whatever you need by careful settings on the attack and release IME. As for robbing you of tone and dynamics, then in that case you are not setting up the compressor to be transparent. It can be done, but without metering you cant hear it out of a mix (otherwiseits not transparent). Which makes it almost impossible to do without good metering IMO. Its totally different from comrpession for effect (hearing the squish).
Ruck
I've read the mxr dynacomp robs your lows and im not a fan of boss pedals altogether but that's just me. I'm tempted to go back to the blackfinger for extreme compressed tone but would still love to hear more suggestions pleeeease
Ruck
Cheers 51m0n definitely something worth experimenting with if I can find the right comp. The diamond comp looks nice, I like the "overdriven" compression effect it has
chrismuzz
If you want mega squashy, just by a Markbass amp and turn it up full
