RockfordStone Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 so i just restrung my warwick thumb 5 string for the first time since owning it. all was going fine until i came to the 5th string. i was installing 0.130 gauge string, which as far as i'm concerned is fairly standard and not too adventurous, and whilst the nut is wide enough, and bridge saddle is wide enough, the binding at the ball end of the string is too wide to hook in. i'm inclined to believe that i could just have a dodgy string which hasn't been wound correctly, but i just wanted to ask the collective brain of bass chat if warwick basses are suited to a specific string gauge. cheers Quote
Doddy Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 I've got the same problem on the B and E strings of my Streamer. Apparently it's a known problem with some Warwicks. The advise I was given was to either use tapered strings (No) or file the anchor part of the bridge down a bit (not got around to it yet). Quote
Silvia Bluejay Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 Yup, same in my Rockbasses. Warwick are now using a differently designed bridge which avoids the problem. Older Warwicks are stuck with it, though. The very max gauge you can use on the low B is 132 by stripping the silk and filing the thick end a little. Quote
RockfordStone Posted November 5, 2012 Author Posted November 5, 2012 (edited) brilliant, its nice to see that i'm not alone looks like i'll be getting the file out tonight then, thanks guys Edited November 5, 2012 by RockfordStone Quote
mart Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 What they said. A baffling bit of design fail. Quote

Interestingly,I had a Corvette in the late '90's that never had that problem, yet my Streamer (which I think is around mid-late '00's) does. Quote
RockfordStone Posted November 5, 2012 Author Posted November 5, 2012 i filed the anchor point down a bit, fits like a glove now. might invest in a new bridge at some point in the future, but its sorted for now. cheers doddy for the heads up Quote
