Hutton
I bought this rather nice 1981 RS840BK back in September last year. It was in a bit of a sorry state and needed a lot of work on the body and a refinish to make it presentable. The electrics were also bizarre so the whole thing was rewired with correct Japanese pots. The original knobs and truss rod cover were missing and these have been replaced with reproduction parts from the USA. After the refinish the body was then given an 'aged' look to match in with the neck which was in very good nick. All in all I am very happy with the way the bass has turned out. If anyone has an original case that they are willing to sell I would be interested. Edited March 12, 2019 by Hutton

Yes please do some new bass day threads when the mørch basses arrive , I’ve always been a fan of Johnny’s work & came close to owning a few in the past 👍

I have a 90 Streamer Stage I 5 string with broadneck and Barts and it's a beast! The neck is so comfy and the spacing is perfect but can't get my head round 6 strings at that spacing!! I'm guessing yours is mid-90s? Barts or EMG?
Kev
An updated shot of my SRMS805, now fitted with US Bartolini pickups and preamp, great expense but great reward!
MPU
My RB800. Refinished, truss rod and fretboard changed, custom Wal-like eight coil pickups. All done at my shop. Next is filter based preamp. Nice player and great sound.

Doctor J
I drunkenly bought this 89 SR1000E “as is” on ebay. The seller mentioned a stuck truss rod and dead preamp. Shipping was free, though, which was nice as the seller is in Japan. It’s a nice counterpart for my 89 SR800LE but it’s going to need a lot of work and a rather thorough clean. I do love old SRs though.
LeftyJ
Cool! I kinda miss my lefty 1987 SR800LE, it was the easiest playing bass I have ever laid hands on. Didn't get along with the tone and the onboard EQ, but I loved playing it.
Doctor J
I know what you mean. I find subtractive eq’ing to work best on the 800. It’s not overloaded with mids, that’s for sure. There’s a bit of work to get through before I get to hear the 1000. It’s a very different animal, both woods and electronics are quite disparate. I’m expecting that to translate to what cones out of the speakers. They’re such a comfortable design though. I started playing in 1989, it’s incredible to think of them being cutting edge then and how the world of bass looked 30 years before that. AdChad1987
Here's my sparkly TMB310. Modded the pups slightly. I can't sing this girl's praises enough. I paid £200 for it and it gives my more expensive basses a good run for their money. Versatility, balance, tonal options and that finish. Its possibly my most complimented bass, never my playing though 😂
AlexMUK
Hi, Heres is my lovely brown burst SRMS805. It was my first five string and my first Ibanez. The neck feels absolutely fantastic, although possibly the string spacing is a little tight for slap with my big mitts. I've got some Nordstrand Zen Blades on order to replace the Bartollini BH2s, which I think sound a little too dark for my tastes. Lovely basses! Will do.. they're taking ages to get to best brass gear as they are the 6 string sized Zen Blades and I'm waiting for Nordstrand to make them. Then I've got to decide whether to wire them single or parallel... Will be a fun experiment.

Baloney Balderdash
My beloved Ibanez GSRM20 neck + GSRM20B body Mikro Bass, that I named "Dud Bottomfeeder". Maple neck with Rosewood fretboard and an unusual light supposedly Mahogany body (what the official Ibanez specs said for that year of production, and does look a lot like Mahogany too, the extremely light weight just doesn't quite match up with that), the stock J pickup pulled out, replaced for a piece of folded black cardboard, the stock P pickup pulled out as well, and replaced for an EMG Geezer Butler P pickup, wired directly to the output jack socket, the stock sound mounted barrel type one pulled out and replaced for a regular jack socket, mounted in one of the redundant pot holes (since the pickup is wired directly to the jack socket), the two remaining pot shafts equipped with transparent and black PRS lampshade knobs, and then red and green strips of electrical tape (also known as insulation tape) and stickers added as shown on the photos. Respectively the most recent shot, and then a bit older but much better shot that does how it really looks more justice (except for one of the knobs now having red electrical tape applied to the top of it, rather than green, as shown on the first more recent photo): On 23/06/2023 at 01:10, Woodinblack said: Love the 1605s, but seems like all your spalting has fallen down to the bottom! Eventual give it a good shake every now and then to speed up the process, and to ensure more even splating. msb
I bought this Talman to be a mod project after seeing one that had been fitted with a Tbird pickup. I liked the look. So I found one and dropped a Bird pickup there. I’ll probably change the pots and tuners , and have an older grey bobbin Pbass pickup that might make an appearance. The stock bass was neck heavy , and the neck certainly is substantial. I’m ok with chunky necks. I’m enjoying this.
