Gibson SG Bass?

Recommended Posts

It's a Gibson SB400 see the link - they are actually quite nice basses if you can get a good example. There was an SB300 too, scale length may be the difference. Both lacked the thump of the EB series. I've also seen similar models by Hoyer and Guild.

These are not bad basses at all, Gibson did a great job with the woodworking and finish - certainly quality craftsmenship in the build, but the pickups are very different to the traditional overwound Gibson EB humbuckers - these are single coils - reminiscent of the melody maker guitar pickups. The bridge is a bit obscure too if you need parts.

If you like the SG shape on a Gibson bass, but find the EBO too wooly/boomy, this might be one to try.
