Green Alsatian
I kept a list of mine. In recent years, I bought/sold a lot, just to try as many different basses as I could get my hands on. Kay Precision copy (1989) Marlin Slammer Precision copy (1990) - this was the first bass I modded, adding a J at the bridge, then a second J at the neck and then moved the two Js and wired as a bridge humbucker. 1982 Rickenbacker 4001 (1992) Fender American Reissue '62 Jazz (1998) Tobias Toby Pro 5 (2000) Hohner Rockwood LXB100B (2003) - given to me by a friend who was moving to America. I gave it to my brother and later rescued it and modded and defretted it. Fender MIM P-Bass Special Active (2004) Ibanez GWB35 Gary Willis Signature Fretless (2005) Yamaha BB414 (2005) Fender MIM 5-string Jazz (2006) Mighty Mite P-bass build (2006) - my first ever build. This was later further modded with an MM pickup at the bridge. Ibanez SRX390 (2006) Harley Benton Beatbass (2007) Ibanez STB GT5 5-string (2009) Mighty Mite Jazz Bass build (2009) - my second build. Spare parts Jazz bass with single mudbucker at neck (2009) - made from cheap parts for a laugh. Washburn Taurus T-15 (2009) Hohner 'The Jack' headless (2009) Yamaha RB765A (2009) Vintage EST-96 Stingray copy (2010) - I put in a Seymour Duncan pickup and preamp in this one. Epiphone Pro-5 Thunderbird 5-string (2010) Aria Pro II AVB40 Avante (2010) Burns Bison (2010) Ibanez SR205 (2010) Fender MIM Classic 50s Precision Bass (2010) Peavey Zodiac BXP (2010) - I put a set of EMG PJX in this one. Warwick Rockbass Streamer Fretless (2010) Yamaha BB415 5-string (2010) Epiphone EB-0 (2010) Vester Stage Jazz copy (2010) Ibanez ATK-300 (2011) Washburn XS-5 Axxess 5-string (2011) Vintage EJM96 Jazz Bass (2011) Aria Pro II Laser Classic (2011) - I had to replace the pickup selector on this one. Traben Neo Limited 5-string (2011) G&L L2000 Tribute (2011) Hofner Ignition Violin Bass (2011) Cort GB334A (2011) Ibanez SR300 DXF Fretless (2011) Peavey Millennium BXP 5 (2011) - I modded this with an MM pickup between the two J-pickups. CMI 'Electric Bass' Precision copy (2011) Vintage V4 Precision copy (2011) Squier Vintage Modified Amber Precision Bass (2011) Sterling by Musicman Ray35 (2011) Fender Modern Player Telecaster Bass (2011) Yamaha BB424 (2012) ESP LTD Vintage 204 (2012) Westone Thunder 1-A (2012) Westone Spectrum GT (2012) Vester Clipper (2012) - Warwick Thumb copy. Ibanez BTB-200 (2012) Vintage V1005 Spalted Maple (2012) SX Custom Handmade Vintage Series Precision Bass (2012) Aria Pro II The Cat (2012) - I refretted this one. Yamaha RBX270 (2012) - a 'buy it now' for £50! Spector Performer 4 DLX (2012) Vintage V4MVW (2012) Sterling By MusicMan SUB 4 (2012) Ibanez SR300MCA (2012) Vintage VJ96MRJP Fretless Jazz (2012) - awaiting a new neck for this, as the original is twisted a little. Overwater by Tanglewood Classic J (2012) - successfully carried out its first gig last Saturday. Edited November 8, 2012 by Green Alsatian

Earbrass
Kimbara Jazz Bass copy - bought 1978, sold early 80's - end of my bass-playing for a few decades. Good but heavy. Peavey Milestone III (red) - bought 2004?? s/h for £50. Fender Aerodyne Jazz - decided I was ready for a "good" bass. Realised it wasn't significantly better than the Peavey, and sold it again. Peavey Milestone III (sunburst) - bought s/h for £45. Replaced the Aerodyne: used as backup/spare when I was in a band. Kept afterwards in Suffolk for playing with my Dad. Given away after he died last year. Peavey Zodiac - fancied the P/J layout - intended to replace 2nd Milestone - lovely bass but a bit too heavy for me, so sold it again and kept the 2nd Milestone. BassTractor
In contrast to my expectations, this thread was not dull at all. I find it interesting to read what people have hoped, thought and experienced, and what basses they have left after this, often long, journey. Thanks for sharing, guys 'n' gals! I'll edit my short list then - for you reading pleasure (? - - one can always hope): Gone: 1980 P-copy (I believe) that wasn't mine to begin with - may have been a Cort. Buddy I lived with bought it, but I used it most, whilst he tracted his g****rs. That P-thing was not too shabby, and taught me that I would thrive on owning and playing basses. 2011 AXL Marquee AP-800. Bought on a friday or saturday just for punch-in tones and themes in otherwise keyboards-based music. Returned on monday as the week-end had taught me that I LOVED the bass, and I was not gonna settle for an Axl with a twisted neck. Still have: See sig. Oh, wait, some people suppress sigs. OK then: 2011 RockBass Corvette. The exchange for the Axl. Beautiful and with menacing sound. Easy to play AND had a "W" on the headstock. 2011 Hohner B2B. Some weeks later, I found this old love cricket bat for less than 1/4 of new price. NEW! Couldn't resist. It isn't set up properly, and I'm leaving it like that - just for the experience. Keeps in tune whatever I do. That, and it's my passive alibi. 2005 EBMM Bongo 4-HH. Some weeks later, I found this love of my life just a mile from my home, used. Couldn't resist and started my long journey of eating rolled oats exclusively. Can do "everything" but a P and a StingRay. The cricket bat will do the P though. 2009 EBMM Bongo 4-HS. Just bought. Was sent to a friend. Will hear it in some years. Then I will equip it with very different strings from those on the HH. Bliss and Heaven all in two basses. 2012 Squier CV '60s Jazz. Just bought. Was sent to a friend. Will hear it in some years. I've always loved the Jazz more than the P. Need to feel that neck, and reportedly the Squier has that neck. Very curious. I hope it will teach my friend to play and love the bass. Since I'm old, and will die in some decades, I don't see myself moving any of these basses unless pecuniar reasons force me. Yup: happy. best, bert Edited November 10, 2012 by BassTractor
dmccombe7
some of you guys are obviously unsettled in life having to buy that many basses Out of curiosity is there a specific reason why you decided to buy or change your basses - as someone pointed out its better than some small retailers. Highfox
some of you guys are obviously unsettled in life having to buy that many basses Out of curiosity is there a specific reason why you decided to buy or change your basses - as someone pointed out its better than some small retailers. Dave
I'd take a guess and say that some of us have been playing over a good many years I've been at it over 35 years. For me I just think (most) basses are a work of art, they each have their appeal and attraction. I had and used just the one bass for near on 20 years, seems this interweb thingy night be to blame for all this GAS lol. Edit: looking at your profile dmc, I see you have a year or 2 on me Edited November 10, 2012 by Highfox
