Hey all bass players,

I really want to get into converting basses, and found this cheapy PGB-105 5 string on amazon:

(see first attached file- 'picture 3')

and I want to turn it into an gibson sg, something like this:

(see second attached file - 'picture 2')

What do we think, possible?

Would seriously appreciate all feedback on any aspect of the work I'll have to do, useful sites, past experience, anything,

Many thanks

Ideally I'd love to make one from scratch, but being realistic I don't think I have anywhere enough of the necessary equipment!

How about turning the PGB-105 5 string into a rickenbacker 4003 body shape instead? Its more similar so should be easier, and while I'm shaping the body I also plan to replace the pickups with some good humbuckers.

Out of interest, how would i change the painted wood surface of that PGD-105 on the left to look like the real wood texture of the sg on the right, with its red vintage look? is that something to do with 'wet sanding'?

Just out of interest, for the price of the PGB-105 5 string, could you not just buy an epiphone?

I cant say I have ever known of anyone 'convert' one bass to another, and you probably would need all the same equipment needed to make one from scratch to even try.
