I believe I'm the only GASaholic in my band, and am ridiculed accordingly... It's all done in the best possible taste, of course! Oopsdabassist
Played with SAGE my covers band Fri night, it was our 2nd anniversary, had a great time, we come from all walks of life, with 1 old pro musician and 3 weekend warriors, I cant believe 4 guys randomly meeting could fit together so well, long may we carry on!! I like this thread Nige, good call!
Skol303
Nice thread Nige. And I thought you should know that I picked up a copy of 'You Look So Good' last night... gave it a listen earlier and I couldn't get the damned song out of my head - in a good way! - so bagged it on Bandcamp so I could exorcise it from my mind. VERY catchy tune with huge cross-over potential. Just realised I should've picked up the album given it's only a fiver, so that'll be another sale you'll be getting from me Anyway, great band. I can see why you're delighted to be a part of it. PS: love the bass tone on 'You Always Did' - how'd you manage that? A pedal or post-production FX? rOB
Good topic, we need a bit of positivity sometimes. I dunno about delighted (there's always room for improvement) but pretty damn happy at the moment. Talented and interesting musicians to play with. Get to play music that I've written and people seem to like. Bookings are coming in at a satisfactory rate. Getting some recordings sorted before the end of the year. We don't socialise much because we don't live close to each other which is a shame but we have a good time when we're together. Everyone turns up when they're supposed to and has good input into the music. Fronting the band and doing lead vocals is also pushing me in a good way. Bloody hard work being in charge though, wish the other two would chip in a bit more.

Kit was talking about someone buying YLSGT in rehearsal yesterday Thanks mate! And thanks for the lovely feedback! The bass tones on all the songs are a Warwick Corvette $$ into my POD X3 LIVE then into the desk. On YAD there's compression, chorus, eq, a little drive, and a little reverb. 51m0n did some work with the sound in the production, but they're essentially my tones. Glad there's your thumbs up for digital modelling

charic
Another happy band guy here : The organisation is pretty bad but it's mostly down to the fact that my singer has recently lost his job and has to take any work he can possibly get lately, so we'll let that slip. I enjoy playing the music, it tests me mentally and physically and after half an hour of playing our tunes I'm usually knackered but if the adrenaline is flowing I'm knackered with a smile. Everything is finally falling into place for us now:

Our first album is nearing completion
We have our first headline slot on the 30th Nov at a gig I've organised.
We have an excellent support band (my only worry is being show up )
The posters I designed are now being put up and getting complements from everyone
It's the longest slot I've ever played ( Hour and a half)
We're getting asked to play shows next year both as support and headline (with one particular band coming from the US and wanting to support us on the tour... )
Very happy indeed
Muzz
Always happy with This Uneven Sky - the four of us have known each other for 30 years, and it just works on all levels. The covers/function work I do is as part of a dep collective around the main man, and the standard of players has stepped right up recently with some new additions, which has meant me upping my game considerably - always a good thing, and very enjoyable in a completely different way. mcgraham
Great thread. Love hearing how others are getting on with their band I'm mainly playing as part of a larger church band, or doing covers/originals for open mic and solo acoustic material. I'm happy with one of them After watching some smaller acoustic arrangements I'm now keen to get a small group together for playing out, probably just a keys player and some backing vocals, as a group that want to get better and have fun as a group. The challenge is finding such people!
mr zed
Great thread! It's good to feel the positive vibe coming through. There is so much moaning around these days that this makes a refreshing change. My current band have had some issues in the past, so much so that I was going to walk a few short months ago. We have however worked through the issues and have found the direction that we all want to persue. Happy, oh yes! The band has become closer through sorting out our differences, compromises have been found and it is a real pleasure to be part of something that now works well. The old team building model (forming, storming, norming, performing) is very relevant. It has taken us a couple of years but, we are now performing well together. Anyone having issues, stick with it, remain positive and don't let things fester. Communicate!

crez5150
Love my band Mentally Yours, doing our own metal with melody type stuff, we reunited this year after few years apart because of having kids and other "life" stuff, and we just had our 25 year anniversary!!!! Writing new stuff too. All the guys are like brothers to me,we`re still the original line up minus the singer who we dumped 20 years ago, me and the rhythm guitarist share the vocals. Been in other bands, but this one is currently my only one, it`s like our baby....who`s now 25...!!!! Never any disputes or volume angst, we all play loud as hell.
Blimey I know you guys... think we've done gigs together in the dim distant past..... Do you remember 'Spank the Monkey'? ;o)
Ian Savage
We're doing alright four pro-minded guys, significant others who're REALLY supportive, CDs/merch/van/all the other 'stumbling blocks' all sorted, already had some pretty high-profile gigs and reviews and (apparently) have label interest. Not bad for a band that's only been in existance for six months or so
JTUK
Maybe I'll never be happy but we have a pretty decent unit, have a lead-in to the better gigs, get decent money and play well for ourselves which always transfers over to the audience. What I would like to change or add... more time in rehearsal and so therefore refresh our sets... including original sets and 'stage' sets.. and I would like to spend time revamping a few audience faves.. We have a few festival dates this year which we need to do something 'special' or different to justify the event ... which means either augmenting the band, which is the easiest but more expensive option and/or add inclusive light/projectior show From the personal side, we are matey, but not so close, but we are professional enough to talk things through and stay on track... The chemistry trumps mateyness everytime, IMO.. if you have both, then great, but if you only have one..my choice would be musical chemistry every day of the week
BASainty
Really happy with my band, everything has fallen into place perfectly and it just keeps getting better! We all get on really well and enjoy each others company, we all respect each others talents and we all agreed we are at the point where we cant imagine anyone leaving and having to replace them. Demo will be coming at the end of the month and we have much interest from bands asking to support them. We are dedicated and determined to make The 8th Bridge go far . Cheers for info on how you got that sound - love it. Going to try replicating it myself sometime. 51m0n's definitely showed off his engineering chops on the mixing/mastering - they all sound superb! urb
Yes right now - after years of having let someone else lead the one I was in (now no longer thanks to starting my own) - I can honestly say yes, it's early days but the guys are super cool, organised, talented and professional - as the old saying goes; if you want a job doing well, do it yourself....
