bh2 Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 (edited) Tis a thing of beauty - I'm as green as a green thing. I admire John's attention to detail, notice the single screw tugbar. Edited November 25, 2012 by bh2 Quote
rodney72a Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 (edited) So why is there a Fender decal on the headstock? Edited November 26, 2012 by rodney72a Quote

rodney72a Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 (edited) Or you could say, it's a fake, depending on your perspective. The guy is obviously very skilled, and I don't think he's out to fool anyone but it doesn't seem to stop with the external features. IIRC, I've seen one of his creations, a 'replica' of a 60s Jazz, which had an authentic looking neck stamp. There's potential for deception, whether intended or not, once an instrument has changed hands a few times over the years. It's a Bravewood, not a Fender, and should be clearly labelled as such. mckendrick Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012
Very nice. Interesting relicing too, and I'm trying to work out what it says about Sting's technique.
Tantric, apparently. Quote

rodney72a Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 If he puts a date of manufacture in the pickup cavity, I do apologize. Quote

Benplaysbass Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 That's another of Johns lovely creations. I have his P bass that he made for himself and I must say I will never sell it. Also I feel your pain I did Dover to Cornwall to collect mine, only difference being I had just done 500miles up through France before hand. Enjoy the Bass! Quote
thumbo Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 This bass is awesome, it really oozes character with that relic job. I bet you're chuffed to bits with it! Quote
White Cloud Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 I hadnt even heard of Bravewood basses until a few days ago on this site. His website is very cool and his work is outstanding! Your bass is stunning, congratulations. Btw do you do the full Sting thing, i.e. sing as well as play the bass?? Its one thing replicating Stings bass parts - but a whole different story trying to emulate his vocals! I speak from bitter experience of playing Police covers lol. Quote
yes, I try and go the whole hog. I even try to match outfits with the different basses. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WynWzIiixYM I haven't got any pictures of the new bass in action as it's only done one gig. Pics have been taken but I've not seen them yet. It's a great bass, it almost plays itself and the neck feels perfect Quote

police squad Posted December 24, 2012 Author Posted December 24, 2012 thanks for the kind words. It's a fun band to do because The police always were and still are my favourite band Quote

Owen Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Nice, but the drummer needs to up his game. No octobans, no gong drum. Shocking Quote
police squad Posted December 26, 2012 Author Posted December 26, 2012
Nice, but the drummer needs to up his game. No octobans, no gong drum. Shocking
actually the octobans are to the side, on his left. They are clear acrylic and not so easy to see (and belong to the guitarist) But the gong drum would be fab. Poor bloke can't afford to do it. Even the Andy Summers tele (that's on it stand and not being played) belongs to me. If only Stewart and Andy would join!! (I tweeted Stewart about us and he replied, so at least he knows about us) Quote
Benplaysbass Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 My Bravewood is as new, I sort of like the relicing on Johns Guitars but I wanted to wear mine out on my own. Yours looks pretty good and being used in the way you are using it just looks the part. I would love to get another Bravewood but think the Mrs would soon stop that idea in its tracks. Quote
