Leen2112
I'm thinking of buying a cheap 6 string to see how i like it. I've been playing 5 strings for ages and recently bought a new one so i don't want to spend a ton on a gamble. I've found some really cheap ones, but can't really tell if they are any good. The 3 I found are Stellah, Gear4music and Redwood RM6 Can anyone offer any info? BassBus
I suppose this is similar to the cheap fiver thread on the go. Don't know anything about these basses but you will get what you pay for. BGM did a review of the Shine 6 string recently and quite liked it with the caveat of you get what you pay for. Just beware that the tone of the low B might not always be that great. Edited November 11, 2012 by BassBus
GregBass
I think someone was selling a CH Guitars 6 string at a great price a couple of weeks ago on here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/186579-6-string-bass-fs-ft-by-ch-guitars/page__p__1865166__hl__ch__fromsearch__1#entry1865166 Edited November 11, 2012 by GregBass
Leen2112
Yes, I saw that. Don't know much about those either.
skej21
Spend a tad more and get a Peavey Grind 6. It'll be worth it!
Kongo
Peavey Grind and Ibanez SR series...BTB Series if you prefer wider spacing. Any cheaper than those I don't think are worth going into. Remember your adding "6-string" as well as "cheap". Can't compare them to 4-string prices. :-P

muttley
Although I've never seen or played one*, I'd go for the Ibanez GSR206. Ibanez basses are inexpensive, but they are not cheap (IMO, of course). Mind you, RATM's CH 6er looks like it could be a bargain. * I've played other Ibbys and all have been excellent instruments.
JeSuisSkeleton
I second the Ibanez vote! SR basses are great. Also look for BTB basses. Some of them are pretty cheap second hand (BTB406QM in particular. I have one of these and it's great).
chrismuzz
As above, Peavey Grinds are fantastic instruments. My first 6er was one of the Shine ones with two humbuckers. Also a great bass!
jon_kemo
Another +1 to Shine's from me. I've been using one as my main bass for the last year and love it even though it was relatively inexpensive. I've now also picked up a second one as a backup for even less money and feel equally the same about it.
Mog
Stay away from the Stellah and G4M basses. They're not good in any way. As was said above look at Peavey and Ibby. Dean would also be another brand to consider. I picked up a Brice a couple of years ago for next to nothing, certainly less than £100 AFAIR. The stock preamp was a little too brittle for my liking so I threw a Glockenklang 2 band in it. Sounds and plays like a bass in the £500 price range. If you can find one give it a serious look. You wont be disappointed.
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE
Mines made in the same place as shine(and is the same quality).
