he man812
Does anyone know a thing or two about banjos? I'm looking to spend £300-500 Looking for one with a resonator with metal tone ring, 5 strings and preferably some nice pearl fret-board inlays I have found this http://www.gak.co.uk...250-banjo/30492 and this http://www.guitarcen...244-i1149582.gc which is better? any other suggestions? gjones
Become a friend of 'Blueflint' on FACEBOOK, tell them how fantastic you think they are, then ask them to advise you on banjos. They'll tell you everything you ever wanted to know. Debs husband also plays banjo too. https://www.facebook.com/Blueflint?fref=ts
Len_derby
I started a thread on the 'Other Instruments' bit. It's called Dirty Banjo Habit. Come and join in! Anyway, I recommend this website http://www.andybanjo.com/index.html Not only does he sell a good selection of instruments (I got mine from there), but there's a very good section on background info. Choosing the appropriate type of banjo for your musical interests and ambtions is critical IMO. Banjo - great instrument.

There's a massive amount of cultural baggage attached to the banjo. Not all of it good. I've found that a neutral reaction to a banjo is rare. People tend to go either or . I try to use mine in a blues/gospel way. Inspired by the playing of Otis Taylor. A 2008 cd of his 'Recapturing the Banjo' was a great inspiration.
I don't really know the answer to that - it was substantially cheaper and 'shop-soiled' when he bought it, more like £400 including a gigbag. I do know someone else with a relatively cheap Ozark (left-handed one) who's also happy with what he got.
pete.young
Of the two links, the Deering will be a better banjo to play, though the Epiphone looks nice. andybanjo.com is a good place to check out and I was also going to suggest Eagle Music in Huddersfield - www.eaglemusicshop.com However, there is a guy on ebay at the moment who seems to be sitting on a huge stock of Tanglewood MB24 and flogging them off at serious discounts - here's one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GOOD-QUALITY-5-STRING-G-BANJO-REMO-SKIN-ROSEWOOD-BRIDGE-HEARTS-FLOWERS-INLAYS-/360505969671?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Sting_Instruments&hash=item53efd48c07 . I bought one of these a couple of months ago and it's a decent bargain.
tom1946
I was told that you need perfect pitch to own a banjo, so you can lob it into a skip without it touching the sides....
