thumperbob 2002
Wow!! This is one of those where, say in 10yrs you wake up in a sweat realising what you did that particular day. Cursed for life.
xilddx
What song was the bass player playing along to in that solo?
ZAPPA : A classic "Xenochrony" piece would be "Rubber Shirt", which is a song on the Sheik Yerbouti album. It takes a drum set part that was added to a song at one tempo. The drummer was instructed to play along with this one particular thing in a certain time signature, eleven-four, and that drum set part was extracted like a little piece of DNA from that master tape and put over here into this little cubicle. And then the bass part, which was designed to play along with another song at another speed, another rate in another time signature, four-four, that was removed from that master tape and put over here, and then the two were sandwiched together. And so the musical result is the result of two musicians, who were never in the same room at the same time, playing at two different rates in two different moods for two different purposes, when blended together, yielding a third result which is musical and synchronizes in a strange way. That's Xenochrony. And I've done that on a number of tracks.[sup][1][/sup]

bassist_lewis
I enjoyed Guthrie Govan's interpretation of the vocals far more than the bass player. that Frank Zappa thing was ace!!

So basically the guy was playing one song while hearing another in his head, mashing them both up and producing a bloody awful racket, but it officially has a name so is a valid form of music Im sure you do it in a much more controlled, musical way. KevB
Now come one guys, we all moan at bands covering tunes note for note and not putting enough of 'themselves' into it and then when someone does.... Hang on, scrub that I've just listened to it. It really is sh*te...
I thought he was committing suicide. Not a shredding type appreciator myself but I always like to see Guthrie, even when limiting himself to the blues scale.
