lobematt
Hi guys, I'm looking for some new lights for my wedding band as the old ones are a bit battered now! They don't need to be anything super powerful, the ones we have at the min are small multi coloured LED lights that are sound sensitive. I've found these http://www.thomann.de/gb/stairville_led_par_56_alu_schwarz.htm but we got our last ones from here and having to use euro to british adapters is a bit of a pain. Is there anything else a bit closer to home that anyone can recommend? cheers!
bertbass
Why not just cut off the euro plug and put a normal British 13a one on.

Truckstop
There's a brand out there called Ekho. Seems ok for the money. Have a quick search on eBay, I remember seeing a pack of 4 cans on a T-bar with a stand for £99. Don't suppose you can go much wrong? bobpalt
Thomann stuff is excellent for the money. Their led lights have never let us down.
JTUK
Seen a very good looking package for £299 and folds up into a pretty small holdall as the bar is collapsible. EBS_freak
Aha - I recognise you from "Friends of the Bride". Yeah, can vouch for Thomann's stuff. Excellent quality despite it's budget pricetag.

Count Bassy
Be careful with the specs. All par cans of the same physical dimension (even with the same LED count) are not equal. Even the power consumption is not necessarily a good indicator since the efficiency varies widely (but is probably better than most). You really need to compare the light output in terms of lumens, assuming that this is available and that the manufacturer hasn't lied. Also take account of the beam angle. Do you want floods or spots? For the same power a spot will give higher brightness, but over a smaller area obviously. At the very best current LEDs are 10 times the efficiency of a filament bulb,so a 16 watt LED unit like you mention will, at best, be like a 160 watt conventional bulb in total output, although that output will be more concentrated. Anybody used 'em ? Any good, or would I be better off spending a bit more ?
Bigjas
I have just bought a couple of these, they are great for the money. Ideal for small pub gigs, we just put a couple on the floor either side of us and it gives us a bit of colour. Jas
Paul S
I bought one of these http://www.djkit.com/kam/kam-led-partybar.html KAM Parbar V2 LED kit. Can't go wrong for £179. Well, they could but haven't yet - works just fine.

What's the brightness like, only having (roughly) half the number of LEDs per can compared to the Stairville ones?

Truckstop
I've been looking at lights recently but they're all RGB, I hate RGB! Every band in the universe is just swathed in purple these days and it looks naff! Anyone know where I can get some White lights? Par cans or maybe some LED bars to hang behind the band. Should look awesome with a hazer. Truckstop

One time we played on a lorry trailer in a field in the dark with no other light source - they were fine.

We use RGB LED's on the front facing up for up lighters.... mixed to white at a lower level so not to blind

I'm really only looking for something along similar lines to Bigjas, so I think a couple of the Thomann ones will do the job. How does one 'mix' the LEDs? Most lighting sets I see dont come with mixers and instead just have a DAX cable (I think it is; you know, the sound/light cable thingy. I'm a bit of a noob!) Have a read of the manual for the Thomann ones - http://images.thoman...0_manual_en.pdf
bertbass
I've got a pair of these, http://www.nevadamusic.co.uk/lighting/stage/prolight-equinox-mega-bar-system, controlled by one of these, http://www.thomann.de/gb/botex_dc2448_light_operator.htm, and it's fantastic. Our lighting guy does a really great job manually controlling the desk but you can also use it automatically with all the presets and chases. Recommended. The lights also come with a footswitch controller so you don't actually need a DMX controller but it does make for a more versatile light show.
