I guarantee my entry into the competition wouldn't be music. It'd be a pointless widdlefest at the highest tempo I can manage.

Oscar South
I'm running away in sheer terror....... No seriously I am. In my opinion, music shouldn't be a competition.... It's bad enough when people get the wrong end of the stick in the forum. Feedback left would have to be carefully worded so there's no offence caused.
Why do you have two 7 string basses and a 9 string in the works if you're not interested in bass centered music? Feedback wouldn't have to be worded carefully at all, I hope for anything but that, what happened to honesty? If someone gets the 'wrong end of the stick' its their problem, they aren't mature enough to be posting here, the people with enough common sense to give and take honest feedback at face value will have no problems at all. The Funk
It seems like most people aren't up for a full-on "who can widdle the widdliest widdle" contest but I think people might be interested in attempting various challenges. The first one Oscar mentioned at the beginning seems like it could be a good challenge. Then maybe people could keep suggesting challenges to see if other people were up for having a go at them. For example, you could have a "you don't need a drummer to keep time" challenge. No restrictions or guidelines on what people can or can't play, just a theme for inspiration. So I think Oscar should start a thread in the Recording forum to set Challenge 1. What do you say?
gypsymoth
I say I've posted two cd's of solo material - songs with no instruments other than one bass - here in the past, and found that bass players are no more interested in solo bass than guitar players are. I enjoy a few solo bassists - what you should have said is that not many bassists on basschat have said they like the solo bass music you've posted on here
I'd lose.. but I'd enter just for the humour factor..
+1! Viajero
An interesting challenge might be to set a tune for solo bass arrangement. You could take a standard, or a pop tune, or whatever, and then see who comes up with the most popular version of it. That way you get specialists in all styles doing their respective thangs, and everyone had the same starting point. You'll get both theoretical and/or practical approaches. That could be fun. Oscar South
Posted a test run comp, keeping the rules pretty relaxed for this one. gypsymoth
the deductive reasoning is from number of views/plays - if they don't listen in the first place it's a lack of interest. if you get the plays but no (or negative) comments, you might assume there is interest but no one likes it.
