Antiloco
I was wondering the other day: What happened to this model? It was obviously a big market failure but I personally think its one of the most comfortable basses I've ever had (still do). It is pretty light, sounds killer (not much unlike a Corvette really) it's very well balanced and has a great support for the right forearm, it makes it almost equally easy to play on the front and back PU and has a brutally fat neck. (=Good) Were was the fail? The body form? To much like a Corvette but with another body? What do you think? Are there any other Katana wielders here? Warwick_Official
The Katana is still very much in existence! In fact, Scott Reeder just custom ordered one not long ago, and had it out on tour with him! They may not be out there in big numbers, but they are out there....there is nothing quite like the tone and playability of the Katana! StephenFerguson
Sorry Mr Warwick, I love your basses, and im away to get my dream bass (an early 90's fortress one) but I find the body shape a bit ugly, but hey ho each to their own, I have played one and theY sound bloody awesome, a bit like the vette but with more sustain and a bit less brightness (it was a NT), are German made flashbacks coming back....GAS. Antiloco
To me, its not uglier than the shape of a Telecaster for example. It's different! Different is good! Specially when it ergonomically works. There's still a long way for the left hand to the first frets like in many Warwicks I've tested but you get used to it. Great to know that they still exist! Mr. Warwick! It would be great to know more about these basses, could barely find anything on the web when I was going to buy one...What is the story behind the bass? I read something about a design contest? Edited November 14, 2012 by Inti

Warwick_Official
Inti - the bass that was made in a design contest was the Thumb SC. The Katana is a very ergonomic design, and the tone cuts through like a samurai sword, hence the name! Luke - thanks for noticing! I'm around every day...just let me know if there is anything I can help with. Thanks again!
StephenFerguson
Those infinity basses in your avatar make me weak at the knees, just saying.

eude
I personally really like the Katana shape, I think it may have been a little bit too quirky, in an "un-warwick" kinda way, if that makes sense? The weirder Warwick shapes a more elegant you see, but the Katana always seemed like a bass that put function before form, which is never a bad thing, at the end of the day, we have to be comfortable on these big chunks of wood or we will keep looking for something else. Just a quick thing for Warwick Official, has there ever been a 6 string version of the Katana made?...
crez5150
Played a 5 string version once.... it was a fantastic bass.

Thanks for pointing that out.
charic
The Katana is a beast of a bass, I tried one at the bass gallery. It's actually much nicer in person, it's just not particularly photo friendly
