Pinball
Hi, I use garage band and am looking to upgrade to Logic. My question is which one? Is there much difference between Logic 8 and Logic 9, then there is Logic Studio? Logic express? I don't expect that my needs are complex as I'm using a simple interface and normally record one track at a time. My logic for picking logic is that it should tie in with all my existing mac software pretty easily. Any advice would be much appreciated. RockfordStone
logic studio is usually a slimmed down version of logic pro, less tracks and less shiny stuff i think. if you are not doing massively complex projects then studio should be ok
Pinball
OK thanks, horses for courses! I'll just check around and see what I can find.
RockfordStone
ive been playing around with reaper, which if you work it out in terms of currency conversion costs 37 quid for the full thing. having used it over the weekend its done enough to convince me its worth spending that money on
bennifer
logic studio is usually a slimmed down version of logic pro, less tracks and less shiny stuff i think. if you are not doing massively complex projects then studio should be ok
That is completely wrong. What you would want is probably Logic Studio. This is a pack that includes Logic Pro (the bit you want), Mainstage (live effects etc for guitar, bass etc - like a performance mode of Logic) & Soundtrack for film stuff. Logic Express is the cut down one which is basically Logic Pro without most of the good plugins (ie no space designer, no delay designer) Logic 8 is plain old and may as well be avoided unless you can get a real licensed boxed copy from someone for like £
lowdown
Logic Pro 9.1.8 download is half the price [or a least a lot cheaper] of boxed version. about $200.00 Good deal if you after LP9. Extra $30.00 for Mainstage. What you get. Pinball
It looks like it would be cheaper to buy an older version and then upgrade.
~tl
Apple are now primarily selling their software through the Mac App Store. Your best bet would be to buy it from there, as it is a lot cheaper than any boxed version. The current version of Logic Pro is £140 plus £21 for MainStage (if you want that). https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/logic-pro/id459578486?mt=12 https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/mainstage/id459585276?mt=12 I don't think that they do upgrade pricing any more, so I wouldn't bother with an older version. They have also discontinued the cut down Express version.

shizznit
Logic Pro 9 (on its own) is more than suitable for home recording or mini studio. I have the Studio pack and even though I have seen the amazing Nine Inch Nails demo of Mainstage being used to its full potential I can never see myself using it. I never touch Soundtrack either, so it was a bit of a waste of money. Logic Pro 9 still comes with more plugins than you will ever need and you can download loads more according to your requirements. I wouldn't bother using an older version than 9. I used Pro 7 and Pro 8 and take my word for it they were awful compared to Logic Pro 9 and as a result I spent 5yrs using Pro Tools which I never really got on with. When I used Pro 9 for the first time I was sold and switched back to Logic in a heartbeat.
s1ater
Quick note, the boxed version of logic studio comes with way more content than the app store download..
