ped
Hi BasschattersI thought I'd write a post detailing exactly where we are with the site at the moment. There are posts all over the place reporting the same things, and it can be tiring repeating the same messages and also confusing for the members. I also want to remind you of the new functionality coming up and finally to ask for your help. First of all, we are aware of several small issues with the site at the moment. Things like the 'go to first new post' blobs/stars not showing. Other things like the 'last post by.... in...' missing. Sidebar items not showing. etc. All those have been logged and are being addressed by our tech support chap who is currently in China on business, so bad timing means he can't look at everything all at once, though he's most definitely 'on it', plus a whole host of other things besides that.Secondly, the recent malware warnings. It's all been fixed, and as far as we know there wasn't any motive to take data from users. All your data is encrypted and stored safely, however you may wish to change your password if you like. Full system wiping/IED sellotaping is unnecessary. The warning may still show whilst we're removed from the blacklist as it were, but the issue has been solved. Unfortunately it just seems like bad timing that it happened when it did; there's nothing to suggest it has anything to do with the work that was going on at the time. Thirdly, the image upload system needs fixing. This is bugging me because it's a core concept of the new classifieds section, and through using it we'll have a new section that makes scanning what's for sale easier and faster. As it's busted currently though the section hasn't got the 'new section wow factor' which is a shame, however once it's fixed it'll start to populate with paid ads, hopefully. £1.75 to show a thumbnail on the index view. We all really hope this takes off as it'll mean we can pay for the site and reduce our dependence on donations and advertising. If it doesn't, or if it's not generally working, then we'll go back to the drawing board. Time will tell, and with your support we can modify and adapt the plugin even more. For the time being we've left the old sales area open, too. So, finally - the recent work and anti spam/virus stuff has cost us dearly. Although we have covered most of it, we would like to pay off one or two outstanding invoices for patching up the forum and keeping it running. Without these constant incremental updates the site simply wouldn't be here. The recent invoice is more then we have in the coffers, so if you would like to show your appreciation for this man's work, then a donation to the fund would be GREATLY appreciated by all.As soon as the new work is finished, we should be completely fine, but times are tight until that point. I know the paypal donations bit is missing at the moment, but a great way to support us would be to buy a BC lanyard from the shop as all the funds go directly to BC. Also polo shirt and T shirt sales help, though we make very little on those to keep the prices down. If you would prefer to simply send a donation, please do so using this button <form action="https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr" method="post"><input type="hidden" name="cmd" value="_s-xclick"><input type="hidden" name="hosted_button_id" value="6RNHURY9AJ684"><input type="image" src="https://www.paypalobjects.com/en_US/GB/i/btn/btn_donateCC_LG.gif" border="0" name="submit" alt="PayPal — The safer, easier way to pay online."><img alt="" border="0" src="https://www.paypalobjects.com/en_GB/i/scr/pixel.gif" width="1" height="1"></form> I would like to thank al the mods for helping out with the ongoing work - It's really difficult with us all being in different countries, parts of the UK and with full time jobs of our own to actually co-ordinate things. Hamster has been working really hard his end and I know I haven't kept him up to date because I don't know what's happening on the other end of the line. It's confusing, but it's amazing how people have pulled together to make it work. What really matters is that BC is YOUR website, and it's only as strong as it's members. If BC has meant something to you, please consider the above, and be patient whilst we get through the updates and bits and bobs. We'll get there ASAP! Many thanks to you all ped
