paul torch
Hi all, just trying to find out if anyone does a short scale flat wound that has no binding at the bridge end. cheers, Paul
iiipopes
What instrument and bridge and/or tailpiece combination? It may not be a silk issue, it may be a bridge issue. I don't know of any. As a matter of fact, except for Pyramid and GHS (Brite Flats) I don't know of any short scale flats. Maybe there is another solution? paul torch
I normally use Status short-scale flats. However, I recently purchases a Gibson SG bass and it is fitted with the three point gibson bridge. The bridge design means that the binding sits on the saddles. This also happens with the replacement hipshot super tone bridge. I was going to replace it with a Schaller 3D bridge but the additional screw-holes wouldn't be as hidden as I thought they would if I was to ever put it back to it's original state for sale purposes. Happy Jack
Also worth checking Hofner own-brand flatwounds. Have a look at this: http://www.hofner-guitars.com/electric-basses/violin-bass/violin-bass-v61-cavern.html

paul torch
the hofner strings look bit pricey and the labella seem to be out of stock in the uk. any suggestions for anywhere in the uk that may have the labella in stock? paul torch
Just picked up some labellas from the wonderful guys at Wunjo bass shop, Denmark Street. They even gave me a discount!
paul torch
Played down the studio last night with new strings on. Wow, what a difference. Can't be sure whether it's purely down to the stings having no bindings or just the strings themselves. Either way, I'm more than happy, for the time-being. evilLordJuju
on the topic of Hofner strings.. which are the best for a Hofner President? IIRC the labella short scale were a little too short. Do the Hofner violin bass strings fit the President?
Happy Jack
AFAIK, all Hofner short-scale flatwounds fit all the vintage and vintage-style hollow-body and semi-acoustic basses, so that's a 'Yes' for the President & Senator (or for the 500/5 and 500/3). I think it's also true for the solid-body basses (182/Professional & 185/Artist) with their in-line headstocks, but I'm not quite so sure.
