Tanglewood Warrior III FH low end distortion

Just had a band practice and my tanglewood bass was distorted when I played my low E. Its always been rather low end heavy and I recently dropped the pickup height to compensate. I tried adjusting eq settings and I even changed leads and basses and everuthing was fine. Do you have any suggestions as to what could be the problem/solution?

how old is the battery? a flattening battery can cause the preamp to distort (I'm guessing it's active)

Also dropping the pickups to lower low end.... it's not normally that simple.

Passive bass so no battery needed
