charic
After a gruelling battle with a suitable amount of drama Skol303 came out as Novembers Composition Winner, winning himself a brilliant prize of a custom made bass from 13 guitar co. Lucky git! As an added bonus this month Skol303 has kindly offered up a prize of a Basschat Polo shirt fresh from the store in support of basschat. Lord Sausage
Right! Know what I'm doing. Last time i spent a bit of time on harmony, counterpoint and arrangement...to no avail. So this time i'm not! Infact the complete opposite.....beware! Edited December 1, 2012 by Lord Sausage

Skol303
Hope this month's pic is alright for everyone?! I did find some very tasteful wintry landscape photos; some trippy pics of fairy lights, etc. Then I came across the one above and thought yeah, that's suitably Christmassy innit? ;-) PS: as a token of festive good will to fellow BC'ers - and as a small way of saying a big thanks for the support last month - I'd like to offer a Basschat polo shirt to this month's winner. A new one that is. Not something from my laundry pile... Cheers all.

Pinball
Hi, I won't be in this month as I'm finishing off a couple of tracks I have in the pipeline and will then be taking a break. I need to decide if i should continue recording stuff or try and/or find someone to play with live. If I don't it seems to be a bit pointless. I'll watch the competition with interest though. MiltyG565
Drunken christmas sleazery is what i get from the picture. So something upbeat... but a bit like the background music for a porno involving Frank Gallagher from Shameless.
steve
I'm in, got a few vocal ideas already, I'm thinking xmas cheese with a twist. This, combined with putting up the decorations with the family today, has me almost feeling festive
Bobby K
I might have a go this month, ideas on the back burner as we speak :-) Being torn between the drunken debauched buffoonery angle and a more downbeat poignant approach. Strangely drawn to the latter... Edited December 2, 2012 by Bobby K
charic
How about a drunken downbeat buffoon?

MiltyG565
so hang on... new years day could be double celebrations for somebody. "oh... yay... it's the new year...... OMG I JUST WON THE COMPOSITION COMPETITION!"
WalMan
I made a bit of a rod for my back saying that as I have just got Miroslav this month would be orchestral didn't I!? Got a few ideas but I suspect my techical / scoring capabilities will leave a great deal to be desired.
Bilbo
I have an idea or two but am not sure if I can be arsed (it would be something I wouldn't actually like). Problem is, as a life long teetotaller, I don't like 'drunk' stories and alcohol and its associated activities bores me rigid ('oooh look, he did something stupid when he was drunk; - the anecdotal equivalent of 'You've Been Framed' - 'ooh, look. He fell over!!). I guess I could think of something left field as a 'critique' of the pictured behaviour?

[/quote] Most drunk stories are fairly witless, yes, but having a few drinks really does loosen you up and allows you to relax, and have a bit of craic. I know it isn't everyones cup of tea, and some people don't need a beer or 2 every now and then to lighten up, but can you really hold a grudge to those that do? It's been a long time since i was drunk, and with good reason, but a drink or 2 every now and then is no harm I'm more of a cider man myself though. I'd hoped the image left plenty of room for humour and joviality, but I also thought it had a darker and more 'sobering' side (despite - or perhaps because of - the intoxicated state of its subject). Just like laughing at someone falling over on You've Been Framed. Then wondering whether they suffered a fractured skull as a consequence. Christmas is full of mixed messages after all... take your pick! ;-)

And there's any number of backstories possible, I think Rob should look a little deeper, there's so much possible from this, and you have a number of character and story perspectives to write from, himself, his son, daughter, wife, best friend .. I love it and hope I get time to do something. Mind you, I'm into the instrumental opera thing I've kinda got into but I love the idea of writing some lyrics and getting a vocal on it. We'll see
