GuySlay Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 We are all in our mid Forties and consist of a rhythm guitarist with no rhythm, a drummer with no drums, and an occasional vocalist with no discernable talent. We are looking for a like-minded bassist (i.e hopeless) who wants to get together on a (mostly) weekly basis and give some good tunes the treatment they don't deserve. We're slowly getting better (yeah right) and hope one day to be gigging!!?? This may suit someone who played in their youth, and now dreams of those glory days, whilst their beloved Fender crumbles to rust; or someone who fairly recently had a mid -life crisis and took up the bass as an excuse to squeeze into a pair of leather trews. So if you're rusty, dusty or just plain crusty; if you're laid back with a good sense of humour and willing to suspend all expectations then give us a shout. Quote
Cyrene Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 (edited) That's the most appealing ad i've ever read. If i wasn't a tad too far away (geographically, not proficiency), i'd be up for it. Edited December 2, 2012 by Cyrene Quote
Clarky Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Love it! Best of luck finding someone with the requisite ability Quote
Muzz Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 You can't beat honesty in advertising! Love it, I'd give it a go if I wasn't on God's side of the Pennines. Quote
Oopsdabassist Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Right up my street! But not geographically..sadly Quote
LeftyBiskit Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Doh!!! this would've been perfect for me Quote
seashell Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 I am your woman! If only you were nearer to Brum :-) Quote
KingBollock Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Perhaps there is hope for me after all! I just need to find something similar around here. Quote
Hobbayne Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Being as your drummer has no drums, how about a bassist with no bass?? Quote
Cyrene Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 which part of Leeds then? I'm in north North Yorks. Quote
thisnameistaken Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Great ad, but if you want a terrible bass player you'd be better off advertising on a guitarist forum. Quote
RandomBass Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 What a brilliant ad, good luck with it mate. Apparently my band already has a useless bassist Quote
bengreen49 Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Too far. Shame I would be perfect for this. Quote
merlin Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 as always too far away...great add..perfect band for me.good luck with your quest.. Quote
xgsjx Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012
Great ad, but if you want a terrible bass player you'd be better off advertising on a guitarist forum.
Are you implying that any of the "not so good" bassists on here are too modest to admit their abilities? Quote
GuySlay Posted December 3, 2012 Author Posted December 3, 2012 Thanks very much for all the positive support! We've posted similar ads elsewhere only for some acomplished bassists to turn up, thinking we were being ironic- we soon put them straight! We remain convinced that somewhere near Leeds there is bassist who's fed up with playing with themselves in their own bedroom and thinks it might be more fun playing with others. Quote
GuySlay Posted December 3, 2012 Author Posted December 3, 2012 Cyrene - we all live in North Leeds but we tend to practice in Bramley LS 13 on a Tuesday night. Too far? Quote
BassPimp66 Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Alas, Leeds is a bit far for me. Shame, I'd love to oblige. I propose the following : You call me on my cell and you mic' your phone to the PA or a guitar amp. I will sing the bass lines over the phone, something like this: dong, dong , doooong, dong dong doonnng, do-dong (in A, in E, possibly in G, but no other key) Quote
sifi2112 Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 I'll come have a jam .... here's my mobile 07508211932 What sort of music do you guys play / like ? cheers Simon Quote
GuySlay Posted December 4, 2012 Author Posted December 4, 2012 Hi Simon, it's more a case of what we can play, rather than what we like ; ) Having said that there's a definite eighties influence and we're working on stuff by Queen, Inxs, New Order, the Cult, Crowded House, Stranglers, U2, and Amy Winehouse ( something for the kids). We're pretty happy having a crack at anything - but we just can't guarentee the results! Quote
Cyrene Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Yeah it is a bit I'm afraid. Putting fuel in car is a bit of an issue on a normal week. Hope you get sorted. Quote
You definitely need a failed guitarist...! Quote
Rumple Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Great ad, it hard finding other mediocre musicians to jam with. Quote
GuySlay Posted December 5, 2012 Author Posted December 5, 2012 The Search Continues............. After a brave attempt Simon decided it wasn't for him (he's not actually saying things were worse than advertised but.....). So we're still on the lookout for those boudoir bassists and (band) virgins.... Quote
