barryman
I have two amps - a Peavey Minx 30 watt and a Laney R1. I have a buzz when I use one particular bass - the Peavey, but NOT when I use the Laney. I tested the same bass using the same lead on both amps and the Peavey buzzes when I take my fingers off strings and the Laney doesn't buzz at all. So I know it's not the lead. So, question is: Have I got an earthing / grounding problem with the Peavey and, if so, how do I check the earthing on it. (I have a multimeter if that helps). Any advice what to do or look at appreciated. BTW, I am not much of an electrician so keep it simple..... Also, the amp has one of those moulded plastic mains plugs so I can't even open it up to look. Edited December 4, 2012 by barryman
bertbass
Set the multimeter to ohms. One probe on the earth pin on the plug and the other probe to a bare bit of the amp chassis or jack socket nut and you should get a reading this means that the earth is good. No reading and the earth is bad.
