Black Coffee
Who would be irreplaceable as a bass player ? Im not suggesting irreplaceable means the best; but would the band be the same without them; eg stage presence, unique sound, particular skill in technique. Would the chillis still be red hot without flea? Would maiden still gallop without Harris ? Would Mr Big sound the same without Billy ? Who never got over their bass player moving on ? wateroftyne
If The Who got away with it, I think the sobering truth is... none of us are irreplaceable.
Dad3353
Jefferson Airplane; never the same without Jack Cassidy (or Spencer Dryden, for that matter...).
Wylie
Chicago, in their early days, with Peter Cetera. Outstanding presence on their first two LPs.
rOB
none of us are irreplaceable.
Sad but true to an extent. Having said that, I'd say that some bands wouldn't have produced the songs they have with different members so I guess it depends on how much the player contributes to songwriting. redstriper
I wonder if Bob Marley would have been the same without Familyman.

Lozz196
The Sex Pistols - although he wasn`t the first bassist in the Jones/Cook band, he was the first in the actual Sex Pistols line-up of Jones/Cook/Rotten/Matlock. Don`t think they would have really got anywhere if Vicious Sidney had been the original bassist. Edited December 5, 2012 by Lozz196

eddiehoffmann
I'm a big Elvis Costello fan and he never sounded as good as when he had Bruce Thomas on bass. Costello's sound really changed when he fired Bruce and it got back to "normal" when they joined forces again to record 'Brutal Youth'. risingson
Jamiroquai
They've had 8 bass players and counting! The Beatles are probably top of the list, they literally would have been screwed without Macca in many senses.
