RhysP Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 (edited) One of my favourites is the wonderful fuzz bass part on "Think for Yourself" from "Rubber Soul" This also happens to be one of the first bass lines I ever learned, playing it through an old Jen fuzz box that plugged into the bass. I'm not a big Beatles fan, but listening to this again now makes me realise just what a huge influence this track was on me & my playing style. Edited December 7, 2012 by RhysP Quote
Roland Rock Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 (edited) http://youtube.com/watch?v=MPjDMZiuhbQ Lovely descending passages http://youtube.com/watch?v=jd-oLhJQne0 And basically the whole of Abbey Road, where his playing was at a creative high point imo Edited December 7, 2012 by Roland Rock Quote
dand666 Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Listen to Something, Penny Lane, Hey Bulldog, Drive my Car and so many more. Basically the whole of Sgt Pepper is amazing, especially Lovely Rita. Quote
essexbasscat Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 (edited) Have a listen to 'Yes it is' for a bassline that doesn't do the usual stuff. Also +1 to 'Something'. Singing and playing the bass line to 'With a Little Help from my Friends' is good fun too. Come to think of it, part of the fun of McCartney's lines in general is the singing and playing at the same time, always makes me smile. Edited December 8, 2012 by essexbasscat Quote

He introduces the songs on the CD that acompanies the tribute book about Jamerson, called "Standing in the Shadows of Motown". Quote

To me, McCartney got me into bass and learning his style and technique is something everyone could benefit from. Quote

risingson Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 The end of Abbey Road (the medleys) is a highlight for me of what MacCartney could bring to a group of songs. He was a terrific bass player. Quote
mr zed Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 'Something' and 'And Your Bird Can Sing' are 2 that I enjoy playing. Quote
lojo Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Silly love songs , it came later with wings, but its got such a great feel to it, he manages to play this while singing also Quote

Mr Fretbuzz Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 I'm seeing the Bootleg Beatles in Cardiff tomorrow night and Hofner have a stand so double bonus Quote
flyfisher Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 I'm sure you'll enjoy the show! I've seen them twice, coincidentally during their 20th and 30th year anniversary tours. Not sure what they're up to by now (34? 35?) but it's pretty impressive that a tribute band can outlast the originals by about three times. Possibly because, until Macca started playing loads of Beatles stuff fairly recently, it was the only way to hear those song performed live. Even The Beatles themselves didn't perform most of their best work live. Quote
iconic Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Eight days a week, all my loving, I'm looking through you, penny lane, something, I wanna hold your hand, magical mystery tour, little help from my friends, Lucy, all for some interesting bits! Ohh and day tripper! Quote
Mr Fretbuzz Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 I'm sure I saw them at wolves poly in 1981 and they were great :-) Quote
