mentalextra
Basically as the title says. Do you keep it on the down low, or have you acquired superhero status. Also, do you cringe when someone fetches guitar hero into work for a laugh!
MiltyG565
yes and no. I don't make a big deal about it, but i do talk about it sometimes. But i also haven't told them of my sexuality, the true reason for my sick leave, or many many other things that i live with daily.
mep
I don't shout about it but most people know I play and a few have seen me play. I work with a friend who is a bassist. I have bought my Stingray and speakers off him. I also lined him up with the job.
PaulWarning
I mention it from time to time but try not to overdo it, especially seeing as one of my collegues used to play bass in a band that nearly made it, £250,000 record contract and all that, bastard. Chris2112
I have mentioned it on the occasion but I am sure some of them have forgotten it. It's always good to have a hobby outside of work, and sharing these with colleagues can be pretty cool. I have surprised on occasion by visiting a guitar shop with a colleague and having an impromptu ditty or two!

When you pick up the guitar and play and their mouths are open
DarkHeart
I work with a fellow bassist so yeah, even though he insists that his Aria SB1000`s are the only basses worth having
SpaceChick
Quite a few people in the office know but I don't bang on about it. Usually comes up when people ask "doing anything tonight" and I often answer "bass lesson" or "band practice".
louisthebass
No, I pretty much keep it to myself - I work with an ex professional musician who still plays and knows I have lessons, but I keep schtum about when I'm playing.
KingBollock
I wouldn't have a problem with people knowing. When I was a kid I mentioned to the bosses son that I played Bass. He told be he had a Bass but had never taken to it, he then offered to sell it to me for the grand total of £10. He brought it in the next day and when I played it he was actually surprised that I did actually play and gave it to me for nothing! It was only a Satellite P-Bass copy, but it was actually quite nice. I like that people know I play, you never know when one day someone might hear about it and offer an opportunity to be in a band or something. neepheid
Yeah, I talk about it from time to time. I have a bass in my office for lunchtime practices. No big deal.

jezzaboy
In my last job, I always told the guys I was a Rock star! They thought I was full of mince until one day a guy came in to buy some stuff and recongised me from one of the pubs I used to gig in regular. When he was asked by my co workers was the band any good, he told them the band was excellent and I was a good bass player. Unfortunaley I am no longer in the same job or band but hey ho! And on this subject, I have found over the years co workers either: Really couldn`t give a toss. Or well impressed that you play in a band and usually say that they always wanted to play guitar or sing etc. Edited December 8, 2012 by jezzaboy
MiltyG565
Oh, one time i plugged in my iPod and played rage against the machine. I then told them that it was my band, and i wrote the song. They all said it was good and they would listen to it if it was available to buy. Fools.

stingrayPete1977
Well if your work colleueges are the rest of the band it's a bit tricky to hide! As for my other job lots of them have been to see me play or even booked various bands I have been in for their own events etc
Dood
Yep, I do. I tell them all. Every single one, just to make sure. it's my bass guitar that pays my wages, so it's kinda necessary! He he!
Big_Stu
I have in the past and been rewarded with a handful or so of work-mates who have "had an old guitar in the back of a cupboard that crackles when I play it can you have a look at it for me?" scenarios. lowdown
If you are sitting in a Show/Orchestra pit most nights of the week, with a Bass guitar hanging around your neck, and maybe another one on a stand, It is a bit of a give away to the rest of your surrounding work mates - or maybe not !
