Bassulike66 Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 (edited) To own two identical basses?! Edited December 10, 2012 by Bassulike66 Quote
pietruszka Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 No, but how do you know which one to choose? And if you pick one over the other, why? Surely they're both the same otherwise they would be different? If it's in a box and you can't see it, is it alive or dead? Dan Quote
Jayben Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 I wouldn't say so. They could be set up for two different tunings, or perhaps with different string gauges to suit different styles.. Quote

If one bass is strung with flats and the other with rounds, this would render two otherwise identical basses to be different, tonewise. Quote
discreet Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 (edited) But the OP said identical basses. So they would have to be strung exactly the same. If you gig a lot you could conceivably have one as a backup... otherwise it is mental, imho. Edit: Or, if you have two favourite colour schemes and have to have two basses because you can't choose between them... but that would be extremely decadent, wouldn't it? Lozz196 Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Well I have two Oly White Precisions, with tort pickguard and rosewood fretboards. One is USA, the other is CIJ. But essentially they are the same bass. I just figure I only like one sound when playing, so it makes sense to have a backup of that sound. Having a Jazz or Stingray wouldn`t be much use to me if my Precision develops a fault or needs to go to the luthier for any work. Quote

Doddy Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 I don't have identical basses-I've got 7 Fenders but they are all different. Quote
noelk27 Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Nope. Serial numbers less than 30 units apart. Quote
BigRedX Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 No not at all. One to use as a main bass and one to use as a backup. In my case I'd probably have them in different colours, but otherwise they would be exactly the same. Quote
thisnameistaken Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Dangerous territory. You could lose one and never find out. Quote
