GreeneKing Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 (edited) A fairly rare bass I suspect from the very few I've seen around. A new project in my life of bassplaying makes the selling of some instruments a sad reality. This example is a real beauty in top condition. Neck through, 34" scale, piezo bridge with an ebony fingerboard and top build quality are all TRB trademarks. The electrics all work perfectly and there is very little tarnishing of the gold hardware. Mark wise it's in exceptional condition for a bass of it's age with light scuffs but there is one small ding as photographed. It's a P/J as you can see and defective pickup caused them to be replaced by previous owner with EMG Hz. The bass sounds really great with these pickups and looks good too imo. It comes with the original Yamaha hard case. Weight about 9.2 lbs in old money. I'm looking for £650 (now £625) plus shipping. martfitz Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Can you please stop putting these fantastic Yamaha's on here (Or at least until I've sold my Flying V). Great looking bass. (Would look even better next to my old TRB4 )
TheGreek Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 We see so many TRB 5/6s - nice to see a 4 string for a change - good luck with the sale..
Enzo Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Such a great bass, I had the 6 strings in the same exact color.
mikeh Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Gorgeous bass, you dont fancy a trade for a status s3000 do you?
GreeneKing Posted December 12, 2012 Author Posted December 12, 2012 Sorry Mike this needs to be sale only I'm afraid. Peter
GreeneKing Posted December 13, 2012 Author Posted December 13, 2012
Do you happen to have the old pickups?
No I'm afraid not.
Wiggybass Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 It sure is - I've been looking for one for ages too...just a pity about the EMGs IMO.
That's helpful thank you If you haven't heard this bass with the Hz then it's perhaps not quite valid to comment? The original pickups were defective and are 'unobtainium'. I've owned TRBP's in both 5 and 6 string format and I'd say that the Hz's are as good as if not better than the originals. They also look a great and a good match imo. Please note that these are not active pickups. Peter Edited December 13, 2012 by GreeneKing
Wiggybass Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 (edited) Sorry, didn't mean to sound derogatory, that wasn't the intention. I have a TRB-5PII which I adore, but I've yet to hear a set of EMGs that do anything for me, it's just personal taste. And in fairness the price does fairly reflect the small lack of originality, it's very attractive indeed IMO. So is the active circuit still in place, i.e. you have passive pups hooked up to the original active preamp and tone circuit? Edited December 13, 2012 by Wiggybass
GreeneKing Posted December 13, 2012 Author Posted December 13, 2012 Yes, as I said originally all the electrics work as per Yamaha intentions. I always avoid opinion in FS threads myself is it could detract. Many people think active pickup tone when the word EMG comes along yet these are very much not that tone. Peter
GreeneKing Posted December 15, 2012 Author Posted December 15, 2012 A gentle bump for this lovely bass. Also a price drop to £625

Amazing tones from EMG equipped basses... Referring of course to Stuart's Washburn basses.

GreeneKing Posted December 20, 2012 Author Posted December 20, 2012 Another Xmas bump for a rare and beautiful instrument.
