Fender_Greg Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Anyone had a go on one of these yet?? Quote
0175westwood29 Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 So whats the di for? Is it a full range signal? Or just dirt? Quote
dudewheresmybass Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 I'll try to remember to ask when I try it Quote
BassTractor Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012
Just to confirm, we now have the Deluxe Bass Big Muff in stock.
That's nice, but why do ya keep yer phone in this off-the-hook state? Only kidding! best, bert Quote
dudewheresmybass Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 So, I tried one today at stompbox, and left £90 lighter. ( if only losing weight were so easy!) This thing Is awesome! The controls mean you can sculpt the sound in lots of ways. I found a lovely gnarly fuzz sound with tons of low end and seemingly no huge scoop. I'll certainly be firing it up at this weekends shows and then report back! My Christmas pressie to myself!! Quote
Stan_da_man Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Any word on the DI out? Would be useful so you can alter stage/FOH sound accordingly. Is it worth buying one if you already have a Bass Big Muff? Thanks! Quote
dudewheresmybass Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 (edited) Apparently the di doubles the output socket. I already have the originally bbm, the bfd (which tbh is its main competitor for space in my rig) And a couple of other fuzzes. It takes what the bbm does and improves it drastically. Changeable blend, adjustable gate, the crossover is nice too- making it footswitchable just makes sense to me I'm not really a fuzz addict, but really just lookin for the right sound to fit my band mix Edited January 2, 2013 by dudewheresmybass Quote
dudewheresmybass Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 I've just noticed it has a direct out jack on the input side. Quote
paul_5 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 No worries, just post it to me and I'll do some... ;-) Quote
dannybuoy Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Apart from the new bells and whistles, does the actual fuzz sound any different to the original? If someone has both, please could you set them to 100% dry and compare the sounds? Quote
BassTractor Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013
Apart from the new bells and whistles, does the actual fuzz sound any different to the original?
That's really hard to say. The bells and whistles are so integrated in the sound that it's hard to imagine the dry sound without those instruments. Quote
dudewheresmybass Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 When I get the chance I'll a/b them Quote
paul_5 Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 I've just modded mine to something very close to the 'deluxe'; added a "mid", "gate" and "blend" control. Awesome. Not £100 either! Quote

paul_5 Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 (edited)
Show us a pic!!
Don't act like you're not impressed! The switch in the bottom right toggles between Silicon and germanium diodes in the feedback loop of the 2nd gain stage. Nice! Edited January 17, 2013 by paul_5 Quote
dudewheresmybass Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 I had a chance to ab them earlier today. The fuzz is very similar if not identical. The Dlx though seems to have more mid content than I would expect from a big muff ( although not by a huge amount) It sits in a mix much better than the bbm. The blend control works wonders here, rather than the fixed blend of the bbm. The crossover needs to be set carefully though or I found it tended to sound a little nasal in the mix. I settled on a setting as it turns out quite close to one of the sample settings in the little brochure/ leaflet. IMO its worth it's £89 to me, just to have useful muff sound, although for my main band I think the bfd will be staying on my board. As a standalone fuzz for an 'average' band content wise- definitely worth a good look Quote
Stan_da_man Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Any other experiences with this? I really liked my BBM but like said, missed the blend option. Close to pulling the trigger though! Quote
paul_5 Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013
Hmmm. Interesting. Have you tried this ? Any specific links I can look at with pics etc ? I tried the partial link above but couldn't get anywhere with it.
I've used this method of 'gating' my new 'supermuff' and, although it gates the signal, you need to roll the volume up to full - essentially you've voltage starving the transistor which results in a MASSIVE volume drop. Hmm, there must be a better way to do this... Quote
Thatguy59 Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 There's a demo up now, there's £90 in my wallet that now isn't looking so secure..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfSLR30N24k Quote
Fender_Greg Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Hmmm...I'm somewhat a little unimpressed. Not sure what I was expecting but after seeing that video I just feel the only really good extra knob is the blend which the BBM is screaming out for Quote
