Recent fret dress Bad One or two dinks, top of headstock etc - minimal on body. Could be passed off for a few years old Top two tuner buttons non-original One volume pot is a bit stiff The back plate was missing - I made a new one - while I was about it I put switches in for the coil taps - these are well done and set level with the plastic so won't be knocked while playing or rub or anything. I've only got a bass gigbag for it Hello what kind of bass is this? Er... it's not really a bass Bob is it? It's a guitar. I didn't know you played guitar! I don't really, I was given this and thought I would learn. Have you got so good you're buying an awesome-shreadocaster? Er what? guitarists talk funny er... So why you putting it up for sale? Well I play bass and would quite like money to buy a Thumb bass. Can you tell us a bit more about it? Sure. My aunt had it in her cupboard and thought it was a playstation controller. Before it was in her cupboard it seems to have been well played and had a recent fret dress. It plays well. So can you tell us about it? Well it was a model of Yamaha SG made in Japan for the european market in about 1985-86. It's not one of the cheap ones, but it's not one of their top of the range ones either. Mahogany body and neck, maple cap, rosewood fingerboard... So is it a Yamaha version of a Gibson SG? No, SG stands for Solid Guitar - if anything it's their version of a Les Paul, but with their own shape. So does it sound like a les Paul? Bob I'm a bass player, and put it through a little practice amp, I don't know. Actually when I was thinking about selling this before I went around the shops and played a load of guitars, it seemed to me that you would have to go over a grand for similar quality which is why I chose to keep it. I was most like the gibson les pauls, with a skinnier neck. Sound wise.... er humbucker type tone... .I don't know the differences! It sounds really nice on single coil mode too, a bit like a slightly fatter sounding tele on the bridge- again I'm a bass player so I have no confidence describing electric guitar comparisons. It sounds good though. So what do you want for it? I dunno, they don't come up for sale often. High end SG's go for thousands, the low end and tiwanese ones for a couple of hundred. How does £450 sound? What about trades? Try me - a nice bass of some kind? I have no money to throw in but have my Jazz bass (based on a Squier japan silver series body/alder body refinished by yours truly) as possible addition for the "right bass"- not jus' any ol' crap ken. Sounds good! Where is it? It's in leeds. Due to my crappy amp it may be easiest if I bring it to you and your amp locally. What if I don't live locally? Live near a train station? Pay for my train ticket (return), I'll bring it to your door.... (within reason) Any other photos... yeah I'll stick them in the next post Edited February 20, 2013 by LukeFRC
