rikodriko
Hi 2 questions in 1 !! anyone had any experience with these strings ? The Gut-a-like are not too expensive, so was thinking of buying some just to try out at the same time i am going to buy some more 'traditional strings'. I have been using spirocores for about 6 years, and i think its time for some new ones - my old bass teacher recommended the 'jazzer' from Pirastro - any experience with these also? Would love to hear some comments !! thanks Richard.
Clarky
Not tried them personally but TalkBass has a thread on them http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f17/pirastro-jazzers-917706/
oldslapper
Not tried those, but I use these http://www.presto-strings.com/doublebass.html They suit my old ply bass, are deep and have a nice fat feel about them. John
fatback
My first upright came with Jazzers. Higher tension than the Spiro Weichs I've on now, but fantastic growl on the E and A and a very rich E altogether. So much better that I think about swapping the E back in (but I'm too lazy just now). .
Basstroker
Hi Richard! The Gut-a-like E string has very low tension and sounds very weak on most basses, only recommended if the bass is amplified. "The Jazzer" are very fine strings for pizzicato, I think a little better ("fantastic growl") than Spirocore mittel/medium on most basses and they seem to be the strings with the longest sustain on the market. philparker
There's a second hand set of jazzers in the classified section from Marvin Spangles for £65 - might be worth a try at that price?
