I air slap. I am much better at it than actual slap.

The back of my phone won't stay on properly anymore because i slapped it too much while it was in my pocket (steady on now).

I do it whenever I listen to music or even run through a tune in my head. But I always air bass fingerstyle yet play with a pick.

I do it all the time at gigs, and sometimes when I'm walking down the street listening to my Walkman. My excuse is my Reynauds Syndrome fudging hurts my hands and moving them about a bit can help :P

I was watching a gig on thursday (organised and hosted by Tony Butler of Big Country fame, sorry I just had to :) ). I was stood at the bar with a very good local bass player and he started playing air bass. I pointed out he'd obviously bent his air bass as he was plucking the side of his hip but his fretting hand was in the traditional position :)

You know it's Gary Newman 'Music For Chameleons' and not Level 42 right?

The beauty of playing air bass is that you never play and bum notes and those difficult lines/solos are always perfect.

I look at Air Bass as an extension of Jaco's visualising play the bass.
