mike257
Moving house after Christmas and because the missus is awesome I'm getting the front room as a music room. It's also going to be home to all her camera gear and a spare desk for her and the kids to do homework etc, but most of the room will be taken up with my music rubbish. She's definitely a keeper! So, I'm down to thinking about how to decorate it and what to fill it with. Curious as to what the population of BC do with their little music corner to make it practical, inspirational or whatever. Would love to see some pics if anyone's got a space they're proud of - its music room porn instead of gear porn! Mike
JamesBass
Personally I prefer to have it plain and simple, the less in there the better! If you have too much in there like a laptop or TV or even books you might well find yourself distracted, I know I do and so when I practice I turn the Internet off and my phone goes off. I've got a written practice schedule taped up on the wall, the next step for me would be to sound proof it but I unfortunately by living at home use my bedroom as my practice space so sound proofing is out of the question as the 'rents won't pay for it and I can't afford it. Hope that helps!
JimBobTTD
Lucky you! I have a music room too. I like to have floor space and put as much as possible on the walls. Shelves, guitar hangers etc.
gub
Lucky boy ! I have a tiny practice amp and space for one bass on the wall next to my computer, in corner of lounge !
Blademan_98
I have pictures of musical heroes plus chord charts etc on the walls. Music books and recording gear. My basses and a couple of guitars. My new keyboard too
Truckstop
Chord chart posters, John Myung, Ryan Martinie and other posters/ads taken from bass mags etc on the wall. They help me because if I'm a bit stuck for something to play, I think to myself "what would John/Ryan do?" and then it inspires me a little. I also have a desk which is handy for repairs, string changing, general sodding about. A couple storage boxes for effects and spare parts is also essential. A stool also! Truckstop Ps you jammy sod for getting a whole room!!!
mrtcat
For me I find a really small mixer (mine's 4 channel) and some decent monitors plus headphones invaluable. That way I don't need to set gig rig up to practice and have the option to use the headphones if it's late. Failing that a small amp dedicated purely for practice and a sound system that will run your iPod / laptop / cd's / vinyl / tapes etc. Most important thing for me is to have it ready so I don't need to set it all up / pack it all away before or after gigs. I find that way I remove excuses not to practice. Beyond that decor etc is all personal taste.

TheGreek
I used to manage an Adventure Playground - using an overhead projector I outlined some pictures on the walls and got the kids to "paint by numbers" filling in the outline. Did something similar with my nephews and nieces bedrooms, even did a friends' kids rooms. I've got loads of photos but no way of uploading them on here.. It's really easy...what you need is a way of projecting the image on the wall so that you can copy the lines..world's your oyster after that.. It made for very quick but interesting backgrounds for the project in question. The next one was an OHP cell of Charlie Brown & his gang doing a print workshop that filled a whole wall for the actual people to refer back to. Most recent time I've used it was in May this year As for the OP, yup, I've also got a chord chart poster, a massive enlargement of the "Slade Alive" cover and that poster of the NYC sky-scraper builders sat on a girder eating sandwiches. Stacks of hooks to make leads easily findable & an Ikea bookshelf bolted to the wall.
rOB
For me, its very much a corner of the living room under the iron beams. Bass on a stand in front of the mini rig. Everything else is in cases and bags ready to go to rehearsal or a gig. Chair next to the rig. Simple and easy.
Leen2112
I had the biggest bedroom made into my music room and It was great!! The wife getting pregnant put paid to that so now I have the 2nd biggest.......I have a feeling though that when when my daughter grows up some more I'll get relegated to the small room which is so small you couldnt swing a cat, let alone a bass! However, I have my bass rack in easy reach from my stool at the pc and thats really all I need.
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE
For some reason i have to type this again; how many basses do you have? What type of amp do you have? Do you use yourbass with a computer? I may have a suggestion or two if i know this.) cheers
thepurpleblob
I am lucky enough to have such a thing. Unfortunately, it has 5 large cabs in it at the moment which wasn't exactly my intention. Other than that... A desk, an imac, a mixer, a BassPod, a (hi-fi) amplifier, some decent Tannoy monitors, some decent headphones and a rat's nest of wires. Basses are on hooks on the wall. A decent seat. My biggest tips are some good monitor speakers so you can actually hear stuff and take the trouble to find something comfy to sit on. If I every get rid of all the cabs (anyone want a cab...) I'd like a bit more desk space to sit my soldering iron and some tools too. Edited December 23, 2012 by thepurpleblob
discreet
Why no pics?? If I'm not gigging or rehearsing I'm generally playing in my 'studio' room... I can't access BC from my DAW, which is a good thing!

JapanAxe
Instruments and recording kit jammed into a box room, books and mags in shelves on wall. Gigging kit in 'broom cupboard'. Before the kids left home, I had a curtained alcove in the 'master bedroom'!

mike257
Haha, I'm with discreet on that! Be great to see how we're putting our man-caves together. I've got a big desk with computer, studio monitors, mic pre and a small mixer to go in mine, plus my stack of guitars and basses - I'm thinking of wall hangers, waiting to see how much space there is when the furniture all goes in! Just can't wait until we get the keys and I can get stuck in to setting it up! Loads of good ideas and food for though on here so far.
