tayste_2000 Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Use to use Ged Green but he's not done this side for a few years now, also used Dave Lunt but he's expertise are much more on the amp side than the bass side. Want a tweak to all 5 of my Overwaters (Can't do without them long enough to be posting them all the way up to Carlisle and also don't want to post them all the way up to Carlisle) Any advice would be great. Pow_22 Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Jack Ellis. Based in Cheetham Hill. He does all my basses, cant speak highly enough if him. His site is Jacks Instrument Services Quote
Wooks79 Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 (edited) Steve Robinson - http://www.manchesterguitartech.co.uk/ I'll be bringing my basses back to manc for set ups once I've moved cos I rate him very highly! Edited December 29, 2012 by Wooks79 Quote
Rayman Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 I also use Steve Robinson. I've tried a couple of other local techs, but always come back to Steve, on one occasion to put right what another tech had cocked up. Quote
tayste_2000 Posted December 30, 2012 Author Posted December 30, 2012 Anyone tried Philip Porter, had a recommendation to try him Quote
mcnach Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 I know Steve Robinson, he´d be my choice if I were in Manchester too. Quote
lozbass Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Of those I've tried in the area, I'd rate Ged Green highly (if he's still doing set ups, i know he was aiming to focus on building). I've had decent results with Steve Robinson once and a bit let-down on another occasion. I haven't tried the guys at PMT in Salford but hear good reports. All this said, nearly everything I want doing goes to the Gallery - 'kind of speaks for itself. I'd rather pay the train fare to London. If you have five basses that need attention, it's probably a good idea to get to Camden. Quote

AndyTravis Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Ste, what needs doing to them? Regards Andy x Quote
tayste_2000 Posted January 4, 2013 Author Posted January 4, 2013 General setups, string height, truss rod and intonation but they're all tuned really oddly and would like some advice on gauges etc in relation to the setup And yes my mind did forget all about you when I asked this question. Quote
umph Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 If you fancy coming over to sheffield we can sort you out at bedford guitars Quote
bassfunk Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 I take my stuff to Paul Cuthbert: http://www.paulcuthbertguitars.co.uk/ he's great and can normally do stuff with a really quick turnaround. He used to do repairs for one of the guitar shops (can't remember which one) but I'd recommend him. Quote
tayste_2000 Posted January 10, 2013 Author Posted January 10, 2013 I'm going to hold fire at the moment, just sorting a string order with CircleK where I'll end up with a low .166 string Quote
