Which of these three P's would you go for

Soo.

I get a small golden Handshake from work. Leaves me enough to get by for a few months, and a budget of around £700 to buy a Precision.

Been looking at the Roger waters Signature, American Special FSR in Honeyburst and the Mex Classic Series 50s.

Which would you go for and why?

I would look for a good condition used post 2008 American Standard , and the Basschat For Sale section is where I would look for it . Apart from being great basses , the added bonus would be that if for whatever reason you wanted rid , you could get your money back out of it with little or no depreciation .

Yup! That's what I'd do.

And it will keep it's value too. The others will be worth a 3rd less than what you bought them new for as soon as you step out of the shop.

Out of the three listed, I`d go for the Classic 50s, as having had one, can confirm they are really good basses.

However, for roughly the same budget, my money would be on either a 2nd hand Roadworn:

Or this US FSR, which is probably one of the nicest to look at Precisions I`ve seen:

I'd try all 3 and buy which played and sounded the best. This is what I did when I bought my last P which was a 50s MIM, Roadworn, Lakland Bob Glaub shoot out. The Roadworn won, great basses. FWIW there's one just appeared in the FS section http://basschat.co.uk/topic/195214-fender-mexican-roadworn-precision-fiesta-red/ you could a whole lot worse than get one of these (provided you don't care about the whole relic thing).

I know someone who's selling a honey blonde Classic '50s P for around £500 for what it's worth.

Would certainly not want to dis these as they are generally pretty good - but I owned a fiesta red version of this model & the neck pocket was a bit loose. Good bass otherwise.

Rather than splash the entire amount on an American Standard, I would get a used Classic 50s wearing flats, and a Squier Matt Freeman wearing rounds! In fact I plan on selling mine to do just this!

+1 I don't think you'd go far wrong with one of these. They just feel right!

No he's in a local fb group called the North east Bass Bin. Should I send him a link to this page?

My classic 50's Precision is a belter, I'd highly recommend them, and it's still my favourite over the US P bass that is it's back up.

Trouble is you can't guarantee QC on any bass off the shelf, no matter what it is, so try and play them all and make a decision after that, as said above.

On paper though, it's the classic 50s for me, they're brilliant.
