herman
hello all, ive got a 2008 ebmm stingray 2eq, maple neck, up until now ive always used roundwounds on all basses that ive owned, so i have not got any idea which flatwounds to try? i find now that i dont want a bright, zing, clanky, sounding bass! playing mostly fingerstyle now, so any help on which strings to go for would be much appreciated!! gauge im using is 45 - 105 many thanks, herman. Coilte
My only experience with flats is with Thomastik Jazz flats. They are really nice strings and have a bright tone as flats go. They have very low tension, which can sometimes be a deciding factor. Expensive but worth it IMO. Having said that, if you want to give rounds another try, you could check out DR Sunbeams. They are smooth to the touch and have a warmer tone than a lot of rounds.

wateroftyne
I've been through a lot over the years, and I've settled on Laklands. A great flatwound tone and feel, with clear mids and smooth highs. And they're cheaper than most, too.
BB2000
Depends on the individual bass to some extent. I use LaBella 760's on Fender P's and J's, but they don't really work too well on my skyline BG, whereas Chrome's do. I use Picato rounds (Pete used to fit these as standard to Wal's) which are probably the cheapest bass strings out there and they work well for me, so I'm going to try their flats and see how they go. Although the Lakland flats look like good value if bought direct from Lakland in the US.

Much better than TI and Labella IMO!
mcnach
hello all, ive got a 2008 ebmm stingray 2eq, maple neck, up until now ive always used roundwounds on all basses that ive owned, so i have not got any idea which flatwounds to try? i find now that i dont want a bright, zing, clanky, sounding bass! playing mostly fingerstyle now, so any help on which strings to go for would be much appreciated!! gauge im using is 45 - 105 many thanks, herman.
I would try Fender flats. They feel and sound nice... If you want really thuddy and dull but big sounding, try Status Hotwires. I find Stingrays with flats a bit... "emasculated". But the Fender flats seemed a decent compromise when I used them. They can have enough brightness and bit if you want them to, but they have that warmth that flats are known for, and work well for all your Chic tunes

The John Osborn Signature Flats. I believe GHS Precision Flats are very similar.
