Recommendations for a cheapo 5 String Bass?

Thinking of twanging on a low B for the experience. Any ideas for best value 5 String up to about £300?

It's a bit over £300 the new SUB Ray5 is the best cheap 5 string I've played.

Ooooooo I do fancy a Musicman of sorts. I see they do them in black, black pick guard and maple neck...lovely. I tried a Stirling in Cranes Cardiff but the amp was too low, and the frets seemed a bit unfinished... Preferred a mex fender jazz that they had. Not heard a high end Ray yet but I have heard a Bongo and that sounded great .

How about an Ibanez ATK 5 string? They have a great retro look, are well regarded, and within your price range - if one comes up for sale!

gotta say you get a lot for your money with any ibanez even more so second hand,
the atk sale thats been linked is mine it never made it to ebay i picked it up played it and thought it was worth way more than the current value so decided to keep it

would have gone for that price if it hadnt hung around for so long others have sold for around that price

The Spector Legend 5s crop up s/h quite often. I picked one up for well under your budget and really can't fault it on any count. The 35" scale helps it have a very assertive sound. EMG pickups and pre-amp on mine too.

Ibanez or Yamaha - buy used and you can't go wrong; if its not for you you'll get your money back easily.

A used Yamaha TRB-5. 19mm string spacing which is unusual but you may or may not think is a good thing!

Check out your local Cash Converters etc (aka FencesRUs) The local one has had a Peavey (under £200) and a Squier (£69) in the last few weeks.

I have two and both are great. Lovely lovely sound and really nice to play. Simple and nice looking. You could get a used one for half your budget on here.

I have a used Hohner Professional 5-string which is very nice (thanks Geoff . If you can find one, they seem to go for about £200.

+10. I had a Peavey Grind 5 which had the greatest sound, great setup and just jumped into your lap to be played. Beautiful wood too, thru body neck and stringing. Got it for £175 and sold it on for the same.
