MrTaff Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 It's a bit over £300 the new SUB Ray5 is the best cheap 5 string I've played. Quote
Coilte Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 You could check out the Tribute G&L L2500. There are used bargains here on Basschat from time to time. Quote
SpaceChick Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 I really like my Ibanez, but I know you are more of a P bass man. If you want a go on my Ibanez, you are more than welcome Quote
Ooooooo I do fancy a Musicman of sorts. I see they do them in black, black pick guard and maple neck...lovely. I tried a Stirling in Cranes Cardiff but the amp was too low, and the frets seemed a bit unfinished... Preferred a mex fender jazz that they had. Not heard a high end Ray yet but I have heard a Bongo and that sounded great . Quote
Roland Rock Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 How about an Ibanez ATK 5 string? They have a great retro look, are well regarded, and within your price range - if one comes up for sale! Example of previous sale... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/167905-ibanez-atk-305-for-sale/page__p__1842141__hl__atk__fromsearch__1#entry1842141 Quote

MoonBassAlpha Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 (edited) The Spector Legend 5s crop up s/h quite often. I picked one up for well under your budget and really can't fault it on any count. The 35" scale helps it have a very assertive sound. EMG pickups and pre-amp on mine too. Sean Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Ibanez or Yamaha - buy used and you can't go wrong; if its not for you you'll get your money back easily. Quote
geoffbyrne Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Peavey Cirrus BXP V - best neck I ever played. G. Quote

thepurpleblob Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 A used Yamaha TRB-5. 19mm string spacing which is unusual but you may or may not think is a good thing! Quote
oggiesnr Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Check out your local Cash Converters etc (aka FencesRUs) The local one has had a Peavey (under £200) and a Squier (£69) in the last few weeks. Steve Quote

foal30 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 MTD Grendel DeArmond Pilot reissue both are 35" scale , hold tuning, good string to string balance and Low B sounds authentic. Quote
lownote Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013
Peavey. Any of them
+10. I had a Peavey Grind 5 which had the greatest sound, great setup and just jumped into your lap to be played. Beautiful wood too, thru body neck and stringing. Got it for £175 and sold it on for the same. Quote
