Ian Savage
Not having much luck selling the other bits and pieces I need to get rid of to keep the car on the road, so this is having to go on the block against my better judgement! Made from a Mighty Mite neck with a very well-done 60s-style F*nder logo, an alder (I think) sonic blue Sue Ryder body, genuine Mex Fender pickup and an off-white scratchplate - it's this one as far as I know (in fact, I'm sure it is) http://basschat.co.uk/topic/144819-ft-bitsa-precision-sonic-blue-maple-tort/page__hl__ryder__fromsearch__1 but it came to me in bits without 'plate or electronics so I've done it up myself. It had a few dinks when I got it so I've 'reliced' it - to my eyes it looks great and the removal of the slightly over-thick finish on the forearm contour actually makes it more comfortUnidentified Jazz Bass for sale - Narrow 5 string £150 o.n.o Low Price!able to play as well. I'll get some better pictures later on today and also have the scratchplate off to see what the electronics are (I'm pretty sure I put proper quality in there but again I can't be 100%). Some quality bits involved to make a bass easily comparable in quality to a Mex or even Jap Fender for my money, so I'm looking for £220 for this - I'm based in South Birmingham but shall be around South Staffs sometime this week if you get hold of me early enough! rapscallion
Does the scratchplate not cover the entire control cavity?
Ian Savage
Hiya - yep, good eyes! It's a 'proper' Fender scratchplate which indeed doesn't fit a Sue Ryder body perfectly (you can see from the thread I linked to in the OP that the 'plate which the previous owner fitted didn't quite fit properly either); it's not glaringly obvious in the flesh though, to be honest I notice it so little that I didn't think to mention it! bremen
Does look great, though I misread the first line of your description as 'I'd had a few drinks when I got it so I've 'reliced' it' Mighty Mite necks are nice.
Ian Savage
Cheers Bremen - and I may have had a beer or two WHILST relicing, but not so much that it affected the outcome It's actually a really comfortable neck, kinda edges more towards a Jazz feel in terms of width at the low end; as I say, shall be gutted to get rid of this one but needs must! Ian Savage
Ummmm...it feels considerably more Jazz than Precision, but I've never taken a ruler to it so that might be partly down to neck profile as well as 'board width; shall measure tonight and let you know! Truckstop
Or, rather more helpfully, Sue Ryder is a chain of charity shops and last year they had an adundance of 'Sue Ryder' P basses on offer; £59 all in! They turned out to be great basses and ripe for modding. Here, Ian's taken the body off a Sue Ryder and turned it into something very special with upgraded pups, scratchplate and neck. Triumphman
Thanks, that's what I thought. Your second response was certainly more helpful and less akin to an eight year old in the playground. Thank you.
