iconic Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Everytime I think I understand trace's cab nomenclature I find I don't, can anyone post a 'ladybird' guide? For example: I think these are all single 15" cabs 1518, 1153, 115? Cheers Quote
VTypeV4 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I've found it doesn't always add up as I understand it at least.. For example; 1048H (4x10 plus HF) 10 inch driver, 4 of them, 8 ohm and HF unit 1084 (8x10) 10 inch driver, 8 of them, 4 ohm 1818 (1x18) 18 inch driver, 1 of them, 8 ohm Which is fine until,, 2103H (2x10 plus HF) using the above doesn't add up: 21 inch driver, 0 of them, 3 ohm and HF.. Which I really think means: 2 speakers, 10 inch size w/3 drive units in total.. 2102 (2x10) 2 drivers, 10 inch size w/2 drive units total.. But then 1153 (1x15) and 1153H (1x15 & HF) don't quite add up. 1 drive unit, 15 inches size but where's the 3 come from. Long live Trace Elliot Quote
0175westwood29 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 dnt forget the 2103x 8ohms 2x10" and 2x5" tweeters awesome cab tho! andy Quote
Delberthot Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Most are straight forward like the 1524, 1248, 1528, 1048H, 1084 etc. Its generally the compact ones that have slightly different and bewildering codes. 2102, 2103H, 2104 (rarer 4ohm cab), 1153 (maybe to match the 2103 cab code?) The most obvious one is the BFC - make your own mind up what that really stands for going by the size and weight Combos can be even more be wildering: 1110 (Mk V 4x10" combo), 7210 (GP7 2x10" combo), 1215 (GP12 1x15"combo) Quote

iconic Posted January 2, 2013 Author Posted January 2, 2013 Thanks guys, anyone know off their head what 15" would usually compliment my SM300-7210H combo? I'm sure I can run an extension off this? Cheers again Quote

Delberthot Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I used both a 1048H and 1153 with my 7210H at different times and both worked well Quote
iconic Posted January 3, 2013 Author Posted January 3, 2013 ...thanks guys, but the um err 1153....I'm guessing that is a 1x15"...so what does the 3 mean? Quote

JohnFitzgerald Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 (edited) I can offer little logic to this argument. I own or have owned. 1518 1048 1153 2102 The first two made sense. The second two, God only knows. They all rock though :-) Edited January 3, 2013 by JohnFitzgerald Quote
Merton Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 The ones with 2 or 3 at the end were supposed to be part of a modular system which all fitted together (ie the 2s fitted together and the 3s fitted together). I think. Quote
Bassman68 Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 (edited) Just to add a bit of confusion to the issue, I'm sure the 3 in certain era cabs referred to 300 watts handling? As these cabs (1153 & 2103) were sized to add to the existing combos as well...Anyone ever use a 1210 combo with an 1153? (tidy little stack). No mention of the 1810x or 1510x cabs yet either..18'' & 10'' with cross-over, 15 & 10 etc. Then there were the 'Multistack' wedges in 18,15 & 2x10''. Edited January 6, 2013 by Bassman68 Quote
Both my 1153 and 2103H were 200w handling (fitted with 1x 200w C15T and 2x 100w C10H Celestions) but these were the later green furry carpet finish models. LongtimeFred had an older 1153 and that had a 300w badge on it but this might have been a cosmetic add-on. Trace did alot of cab options back in the '80s including the monitor wedges mentioned and of course the bi-amp cabs also mentioned but even they don't 'add up' even though their model numbers make it clear as to their config. Wasn't there a range of horn-loaded boxes too with multiple 12s and fifteens? Quote
