I love Bill's playing, his style is really distinctive. It is so unusual to see any love for Bill on a bass players forum. He suffers from having a muddy sound but some of lines are just fantastic and I don't mean the ones that Keith played!

See above.

Has anyone said Stewart Copeland and Sting yet? One of my fave rhythm sections, pushing, pulling, always close to falling apart but not quite; magic stuff.

Just been listening to some live Average White Band so got to say Alan Gorrie/Steve Ferrone, although on some tracks Gorrie and Hamish Stuart swap bass and guitar duties.

Loads of the good ones have already been mentioned , but George Murray and Dennis Davis are big favourites of mine that deserve some kudos.

+1 to this.

Also what about Garry Tallent and Max Weinberg in the E Street Band - awesome combo.
James Jamerson and Richard 'Pistol' Allen / Uriel Jones
Ronnie Lane and Kenney Jones
