Time for a Fender pinned section?

Agreed. Looks like he's changed the bridge and pickguard but otherwise pretty standard 80s precision. And at a decent price too, at the moment. Stick a black guard on it, and you'll have a nice bass!

Must be my eyes then. More than anything looked like it had been hand painted in a couple of photos. Nothing I could put my finger on which is why I asked the question.
Anyway, we have a Ricken&^(£$" pinned topic, there are often Ebay Fenders that come up for debate, I just thought it might be good to have a pinned Fender bit rather than loads of seperate threads. Quite a few of us like expert advice and comments.

I was looking at that a little earlier. I've got to admit my first thought was that it's a refin as it doesn't seem to have a high gloss finish. Apart from that and the details he mentions it's what I'd expect for a 1983 bass.
