It looks genuine enough, but I reckon this is about £300 to £400 over the odds. Got the ashtray cover, looks like the original bridge, the serial number isn't clear but appears to be 6957. That doesn't ring any immediate alarm bells unless anyone knows differently. It looks in reasonable nick for the age. Just overpriced.

Nice indeed, buy way over what most people would be prepared to pay.
There is a lot of that about at the moment.
The amount of stupid price stuff on FEEBay is ri.diculous, eg Highway 1, £800, Fenix by Young Chan jazz bass,£800.
Bit of it creeping into BC as well.
Then people wonder why it doesn't get bought :dash1:

Looks like a nice unmolested example (and many aren't!) although I'd expect to see some paint cracks on any Shergold? Another nice old bass of its type being hyped into vintage/collector prices...and about twice what any of us would pay.

Wow. There was one on Gumtree recently for a sensible asking price.

Mine falls into the 'molested' category. Extra Jazz type bridge pickup and separate pots for each pickup, and complete with cracks in the finish. Not for sale in any case, but it won't be worth much. Not really the point, the sentimental value alone is vast - it was my first 'proper' bass.

Mr Snickers, while you are here, can I ask you how heavy yours is and how wide at the nut?

I *think* they are under 9lbs and sub-40mm wide necks, but my memory isn't what it was.

I don't know. Judging by the state of most Shergolds that turn up these days if that one really is all original and clean then maybe the price is justified. Unfortunately it's become more of a collector's rather than a player's instrument.

There's another one just popped up on eBay. Like bloody buses.
This was more like what my two went for, one boring black fretless and the other a silverburst refinished 8 string. Mind you that was a few years ago but both were in a flightcase. Almost kept one of them as it fitted my Wal nearly perfectly :o

Looking at the black one it has two output jacks. I could have sworn my original black fretted 4 (that became an 8) had a single switchable stereo jack that came with a split stereo lead if you wanted to run the split. Perhaps that is a faulty memory

Seems a lot for both (£800 & £575) even if the former is a nice finish. They were my first two proper basses & served me well - the 8 string was originally a black 4 - but even so were pretty basic basses (but then what's a P I suppose). Looks like I should have held onto a couple more classics I once had :(

Mine's 41mm at the nut, but the weight's a bit uncertain as I don't have a set of scales that are accurate enough. It's near the weight of my Marseer fretless which I think is somewhere near 9lbs. I'll see if I can get an accurate measurement for you.

Thank you Sir, appreciated. A little wider than I had supposed - probably enough to make me not buy one, whatever the weight.

I had one of its first cousins for a while, a Hayman 4040 and my first 'proper' bass and the one that made me realise I don't like wide necks. Built like a tank, neck like a floorboard.
