niceguyhomer
I was going to treat myself to a small practice combo but tried my bass plugged into an old Peavey monitor instead and it sounds plenty good and loud enough for me. Am I going to blow anything up doing this?
Lozz196
I think as long as you keep your ears open, and don`t push it with too many lows, you should be ok. If you hear it struggling, back off of lows/volume.

Guest bassman7755
A lot of cheap powered monitors have have hugely inflated power handling specs, if it doesn't specifically say "rms" then you can treat the power rating as pure fiction. Having said that peavey are not amongst the worst offenders and their stuff is usually pretty bulletproof.
niceguyhomer
Thanks fella, power isn't really an issue cos I'm only playing very quietly in my den.
bassmayhem
I used an active Mackie 350 (?) with a 10" speaker a whole summer for outdoor theater gigs. It worked very well. It had, on the other hand, some active limiter circuits and stuff...
