I'm religious about Apple products and find your metaphor based upon the mutilation of the popular fruit to be deeply offensive.

Heh, I was going to say 'cuts to the quick' but went for the simple one. My your Cox's always Pippen.

Just kiddin'
I'm no fan of those where the top horn is fused to the neck, what d'ya call 'em?
It just seems wrong to me.
Agreed - I think you mean 'singlecuts' - all of them just do not look right - at all - not even slightly...

Also Ric's, look horrible / sound horrible, why Mr Hall has such an issue with copies I'll never know -why not design something vaguely attractive and worth hounding and hunting people down for?

Anything with showoff woodgrain. Yuck.
Yeah I really like natural finishes with understated woods. A nice lump of Ash is really nice. My Warwick's got Wenge and that's not got any brash-looking grain to it, but yeah 'blingy' maple tops, whether it's quilted or flamed or 'spalted' (yuck) it just looks like a lottery winner's furniture. Nouveau riche.

Having said all that, there's nothing quite like bad design to make you realise you don't mind blingy wood quite so much.

The Ric 4001/3 shape is pretty terrible too. When it's got all the hardware and the pickguard on they look nice, but when you see one that doesn't have all that you realise what a badly shaped lump of wood it is.

Having worked on one of these, I can say I found it beautiful and didn't want to part with it once the lad came to pick it up; a great bass.
Same with the guild b301/302 - ugly ducklings.

Exactly. And those coffee-table guitars are only bought by bell-ends. Has any decent band in history ever used them?.

What is it with that top horn? It's like a terrible deformed alien teat. :D
I've had to trawl through 11 pages of sh*te just to check that no one else has posted this gag. So without further a-do, Ladies and Gentlemen, will you please welcome....

A terrible deformed alien teat?

It gives me the right horn...

The top horn that is.

Brrrrrm TISH!

I laughed at the bluntness of this, but just so you're aware, there are lots of members of Basschat who own these. I can't think of many bands that I listen to where the bass player uses a coffee table, but 'decent' is subjective.

And are they the same members who think, for example, Fenders are damn ugly. Lots of members own those too. You can't have a thread like this without offending people. Indeed, the question asks us to say by which basses we are offended, FFS.

Posted (edited)

Yeah, but crossing over into bellend territory is a bit much. IMO it's better to keep to comments about basses rather than the bellends who own them

Edit: oops!

I remember making a thread called "who's the worst bassist" & put a list of some of my fave bassists & a couple of not so good bassists (like Sid Vicious) & most of the posts was about how offended they was.

incidentally, I think Fenders have the potential to be very nice if it wasn't for that hideous cyst of a top horn!

I'm not entirely sure. It's fugly indeed, but within its realm does seem to have some style. The one below lacks even that, and the child-like decoration makes it even worse, imho.

But then it looks like it went wrong somewhere.

Yup, and I'd imagined something like this. Throwuppingly empty and poser-like. In such a way this faux-violin shape does fit the faux-Mozart-metal.

Not that I don't condone music that some people love, mind. But if great stuff exists, then by definition not-so-great stuff exists.
