aende Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 On the chest? On the Stomach? On the Crotch? On the Knees? Where do you wear yours? And why? Quote
xilddx Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Always a compromise between playability and rock 'n' roll. Hence I wear mine like this .. Quote
LiamPodmore Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 On the crotch usually, at a few inches short of arms length for picking. If i use my PolyPro strap i can essentially but the bass down on the floor with it still being on my shoulder. Liam Quote
gub Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Used to be on my chest in the slap happy 80s ( not that I was any good at it ) these days it sits in front of my stomach or on it ,depending on what time of year it is ! Quote
BassTractor Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 (edited) Me using equipment to hide lack of equipment, the answer gives itself. On my forehead! Seriously though, for me it depends on the bass. My cricket bat for example is high up, and has a strap of its own that nobody may temper with. It's perfect right now. best, bert Edited January 9, 2013 by BassTractor Quote
LowdownRumble Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 When I play, the strings go across my belly button so stomach. For picking though, I usually lower to my crotch. Quote
andysleigh Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 below the bollocks i just find it more comfortable, and easier to 'rock out'. Quote
Conan Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Between stomach and crotch. If there is a medical name for such a place, it escapes me. The height is determined by wrist position basically. Neither my left nor right hand should be at any awkward angles... Quote

But that is where the similarities end. [/quote] Quote

MrTaff Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 (edited) Low, the neck plate is at crotch level, I've always felt more comfortable playing with the bass lower. If I was playing all the time with a pick it would have to be a bit higher. Edited January 9, 2013 by MrTaff Quote
BigRedX Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Depends entirely on what style I'm using and what the image of the band I'm playing in is. What feels and looks right. For the Terrortones where it's nearly all pick-driven leather-clad rock n roll, somewhere between crotch and knee. For my covers band that's mostly finger-style and little bit higher. For my previous band where nearly all the songs were played on fretless, chest-height. Quote
Cat Burrito Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 My mispent youth of posing means as I rapidly approach 40 it now feels unnatural if it's anything other than very low. I know it's wrong but it was my own doing. I've tried raising it but now just accept I look to others like I play like a midlife crisis! Quote
jackers Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 I position my basses (P and J) so that the top of the top horn is between 1/2 and 1 inch below my belly button. This gives me a very comfortable wrist angle on both my wrists (I play fingerstyle exclusively now, when I played with a pick the bass was lower). Quote
thisnameistaken Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Not too high for me or I get problems in my right wrist and shoulder. Not too low either or I get problems in my left wrist. My Thumb has a small body and if I was naked then my junk would be swinging just under the bottom of the body I reckon. Quote
Dom in Dorset Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Top edge of the bass parallel to the bottom of my rib cage on fretted , for fretless it's a tad higher but still well outside the "Haircut 100 zone". Quote
Marvin Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 (edited) PITA to explain. The top curve of the bass follows the bottom of my rib cage basically. EDIT: I don't own that bass anymore but same applies for the ones I do. Edited January 9, 2013 by Marvin Quote

muttley Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 I don't (can't, actually) play a bass that low, but I do play my violin that high Quote
Stan_da_man Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Top horn at nipple height for me - I'm a player not a poser. Quote
skidder652003 Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 at the same height as i have it when im sitting down. Quote

chrismuzz Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 it varies on the number of strings and the style, here's an extreme two examples Quote
