solo4652
Hi, I'm considering buying an Aria Pro 2 that has a series/parallel switch. The seller says that the switch works in one position but there is no sound when it's switched over. Is that likely to be a simply-fixed wiring problem or something more fundamental with the pickup itself?
BassBunny
Steve, It could be either. Unfortunately no real way of telling without delving inside. it could be a broken wire, a knackered switch or one of the coils in the pick-up gone open circuit. JapanAxe
Is the switch supposed to work on the 2 coils of the pickup, or does it affect the phase relationship between 2 separate pickups? In the former case, both positions should be hum-cancelling. If you get single-coil hum from the bass, then either one of the coils or the connecting wire is broken, or the switch is shot. Unfortunately it's impossible to tell without having the bass in your hands. If it's not a broken coil, then it's an easy enough job to either fix the wire or replace the switch. If the latter case, if you can hear that both pickups are working in the one switch position, then again it will be a relatively simple wiring fix or switch replacement. solo4652
I won't be able to look at the bass before buying it. In that case, I think I'll pass.
flyfisher
You could deduct the cost of a worst-case repair from your offer. The seller might not agree but at least you have a good reason for the lower offer.
