tedmanzie
Any jazz players/fans here that might be able to put me onto some interesting places to hear live jazz in london, south west london, surrey etc. I'm looking for new, hardcore, underground jazz. Interesting, young players (but not necessarily), experimental etc. Could be jam sessions in pubs, etc. Could be fusion with other genres etc. Main thing is its got to be interesting and exciting. Must be the opposite of polite, traditional, established, nice applause after every solo etc. (no offence intended). Cheers Ted Edited January 12, 2013 by tedmanzie
I don't know what you mean by that either?! This is 'general discussion' forum? Let me give you an example - a few years back I was in a late night pub in shoreditch, I can't remember what it was called, but it was obviously a bit of a hangout / jam session for local jazz talent. There was a jam taking place, not on stage, just on the floor with great musicians dropping in and out with people crowding round in a circle to get a view. Really great raw jamming, very exciting etc. This is what I mean by the opposite of 'polite'. Any ideas?
Yes i can imagine. I used to like The Plough, Stockwell many years ago with John Stevens etc tearing it up. I was really into the free jazz scene in the 70s and 80s. Happy days!
