henry norton
Forgive my complete lack of knowledge here - I'm in the process of winding some interesting pickups and I'd like to record some sound samples once I've installed them on my hack bass. I have a laptop, a Behringer Bass V-Amp and not allot else that doesn't have valves. I'd like to compare sounds with different magnet combinations, coil sizes and stuff like that. Can anyone give me something like an idiots guide???

dannybuoy
Get a small-jack-plug-to-large-jack-plug lead from the V-amp to the line in of your laptop. You won't want to plug a passive bass straight into a line input because the impedance mismatch will alter the tone. Then record the samples using Audacity which is free software. If you want to play and have the sound come out of the speakers in real time then install the low latency ASIO4ALL driver and set Audacity to use the sound card in ASIO mode. henry norton
Thanks Dannybuoy, that sounds like the way to go. Regarding microphones, I've only got the one built into the laptop
