Ritter copy

Anybody know anything about these - I suspect a Chinese copy (Tang??)

There was a big thread over on Talkbass about these a while ago. They are made by a Chinese company. They were showing them at one of the trade shows when they where "confronted" by Jens Ritter himself. It's on Youtube

These have been around for ages, although last time I looked at one they were about $99.

IIRC Tom Bowlus over on TB bought one as a joke and it turned out to be a fairly decently made Chinese bass.

It's obviously a scam posting but it keeps appearing!

Tony Tsai used to make Roya-esque basses - quite obviously not a Ritter as it's neck-through (which considerably reduces the weight as there aren't 72 screws holding the neck on).

Seller also has a Red 4 string with some damage to the paintwork for $145 - would be tempting if the P&P wasn't extortionate and HM C&E weren't going to have their pound of flesh...I'll wait for one to come up for sale on ebay in the UK..

You will note that the first is "costom made" - no idea who he/she is, the second one is "unique":

Wow..I hadn't seen one in profile before. Gives you an idea why their priced where they are, there must be a few hours in shaping that body..

Actually I'm not sure whether they are all that curvy, or if that is a special one-off.

I've never played a Ritter, but from an aesthetic point of view, I think Jens is incredibly talented. Saying that, the Cora or the R8 are as adventurous as I would stretch when it comes to actually playing one.
